Commissioner Rodney Dismisses Reports of FBI Involvement in Asot Michael Murder Investigation

Police Commissioner Atlee Rodney has dismissed reports circulating on social media that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is already on the ground in Antigua assisting with the investigation into the murder of MP Asot Michael. Rodney clarified that, while international assistance is being considered, the FBI has not yet been deployed to Antigua.

“Reports suggesting that the FBI is here are simply untrue,” Rodney stated during an interview on Observer Radio. “We have not reached that stage yet. Any formal involvement of international agencies, including the FBI, would be communicated directly by us, not through unverified social media posts.”

The Commissioner highlighted the harm caused by misinformation in high-profile cases, cautioning the public against relying on unconfirmed reports. “There’s a lot of speculation on social media, and it’s unfortunate that false information is being circulated. This can be very insensitive to the family of the deceased and the wider community,” he said.

Rodney did confirm that the police are reaching out to international partners, including Scotland Yard and other agencies in the United Kingdom, for assistance in handling the complex investigation. “We are working with our regional partners and have also made a request to the government for international support, particularly from the UK,” he noted.

While no timeline has been set for the arrival of any international team, Rodney assured that discussions with potential partners are ongoing. He emphasized that additional expertise would be applied not only to MP Michael’s case but also to other unresolved cases that may benefit from specialized support.

Rodney appealed to the public to rely on official police updates rather than social media rumors. “This is a sensitive and serious investigation. Our team is working tirelessly, and we will provide accurate information when it is available. We ask the public to avoid speculation that could disrupt our progress,” he said.

The investigation remains in its early stages, with Rodney confirming that all resources, including local expertise and any additional support deemed necessary, are being mobilized to bring those responsible for Michael’s death to justice.

  1. It was just yesterday it was said FBI was involved.

FBI would have so much work to do, which they can do, but it wasn’t expert preserving, documenting and storing the evidence gathered at the crime scene. It was a bunch of untrained people. Imagine how damaged and incomplete the evidence gathering was.

Did they call anyone at all to advise the untrained crime scene officers on what they should do to preserve the scene for evidence gathering and evidence storage? Nope.

So, no matter who these people call, the case may never be solved just like they did in the case I flew down to participate in and my uncle’s case.

Antigua can solve a crime if video is had but if it requires science, forensic or crime scene analysis, they will never solve a crime.

Again, those folks with advance degree in criminal investigation is needed or at minimum, listen to our advice. But they never will.

  2. Those gullible Antiguans that believed that the FBI were already assisting… 🤣 Keep believing everything you read on social media or hear from others! The legendary Antigua Rumour Mill wins again.

  3. No FBI, but you asked the Cabinet for Scotland Yard’s assistance. Same difference as in six and half a dozen. It still says, that you’re scared to screw this one up..
