COMMENTARY : Venezuela – Do We Have a Role in the Happenings?

By Audley Phillip

I read that the U.S. has recently made secret contact with Venezuela’s socialist party boss as close allies of President Nicolás Maduro’s inner circle seek guarantees they won’t face prosecution for alleged abuses and crimes if they cede to growing demands to remove him, according to a senior Trump administration official.

Diosdado Cabello, who is considered the most-powerful man in Venezuela after Maduro, met last month in Caracas with someone who is in close contact with the Trump administration, the official reported told The Associated Press.

A second meeting is in the works but has not yet taken place.

This comes as two different Venezuelan aircraft made landings at V.C Bird International Airport recently.  The Antiguan Government have yet to give a reason for the aircrafts visit but concerned individuals wondered aloud if the Antiguan government is helping their friendly ally to hide and store some of their wealth in preparation for Maduro’s departure.

After many months of strikes, electricity outage, massive migration to neighboring countries, no food and demonstrations, Maduro seem to be almost ready to acknowledge that his days in office are numbered and given that the OAS and many other countries have already thrown their support behind Juan Guido, Maduro and his elite army could be just negotiating safe passage  to a country where he can live in peace and spend his fortune.

Would be great of our government can update us as to the reason for the visits of the two military aircrafts recently.

  1. If a whole Rolls-Royce can move from a harbour during carnival why can’t two planes land during carnival also?

  2. It is sad the kind of tom-foolery that gets published as opinion these days. Where is journalistic standards? Someone makes some wild speculations and it is published.

    • Agreed……………….Furthermore no military jet landed in Antigua and I have the record. We need to stop the nonsense and speculations

  3. If you think they are “wild speculations” by the commentator then for us, the avid readers, to be convinced to the contrary you need to give us the “not so wild” (plausible) reasons for the 2 Venezuelan military planes landing in Antigua…We can be pretty much assured that these planes did not go unnoticed by our large neighbours.

  4. It would be great if you (Audley Phillip) were arrested and made to verify your treasonous claims.. Thought you were a sensible individual, guess that was a wasted thought. This article makes irresponsibility looks like a charm. What reckless statements from someone who claims to be an intellect.DAM
