MOTHER AND 5-YEAR-OLD SON LURED TO DEATH: PARTIALLY R-E-V-I-S-E-D
RAWLSTON POMPEY
Economically, not ignoring ‘Tourism’ dependency on whichever country. However, as it affects (a) ‘Parental responsibility; (b) Child care and safety; and (c) Obedience to the ‘Rule of Law,’ these dictate that ‘Parents and Guardians’ shall act with a sense of responsibility, not only as society expects, but also as a moral conscience guide. Given the apparent reckless behavior of both parents of 5-year-old ‘Shray Misna,’ thereby riskily exposing him to physical danger and instant death, far and near, the ‘Gospel of Care and Protection,’ shall be preached to all nations. Criminal investigators shall teach the ‘Lessons,’ that there is no tolerance, neither for indulgence in reckless parenting, nor gross or grave, ‘Parental Negligence.’
PERSPECTIVE
For one family, there shall be many long days of grief. For another family, there may be longer nights of sorrow and regrets and torments of the soul. This commentary focuses on two convicted murderers and the ‘Modus Operandi’ (Mode of Operation). It has ‘Twelve Lessons.’ In the cases under reference, though ‘Lured Killings’ is not a legal term, the coined words speak to ‘Killings’ of innocent victims unsuspectingly lured to act to their detriment or death. No matter the sophistication, none shall harbor belief that in the ‘Caribbean’ crime is unsolvable pays or it pays. The recent ‘Double-Tragedy,’ looked at from a ‘Modus Operandi,’ the cases against murder-convicts; (i) ‘John Earl Baughman-1994; and (ii) Ronald Gederon-2001,’ appeared to have been replicated by the ‘Suspicions Watery Death’ of; (i) ‘Mohini Misna 37; and (ii) Son Shray 5.’
SINISTER PLOT
Either a ‘Sinister Plot,’ or an apparent impaired parental judgment saw the ‘5-year-old’ being recklessly taken to a treacherous environment saw his ‘Child Life’ ended; (a) Tragically; and (b) In circumstances that require extensive investigations, all the way to his country of domicile-Canada.’ The nation mourns, not only his tragic loss, but also that of his mother, ‘Holini Misna 37.’ Incidentally, seemingly well-timed, as he fell and instantly submerged by rushing waves. There was ‘No straw to snatch or rope to hold on to for their safety.
BEFORE THE SUN SETS
Sadly, both ‘Mother and son, Perishingly Disappeared. The only non-responsive things in view; (i) ‘The ‘Rising Sun; (ii) The rugged shoreline rocks; and (c) The dangerous ‘Bridge of The Devil.’ Since both deceased, may have had no clue as to the geographic location, to have been taken to it between ‘6 am and 7 am’ [November 30, 2023], may have been much more than to witness the spectacle of a ‘Rising of the Sun.’ Most unfortunately, they left ‘Before the Sun Sets.’ It was as much to the apparent ‘Negligence’ of both parents, as it was the innocence of a ‘5-year-old boy taken for a walk across the ‘Bridge of the Devil’ to instant ‘Death,’ that has inspired this commentary. Dedicated to their memory.
ENVIRONMENTAL TURMOIL
In spite of the infrequent incidents, some capable of being mildly described as ‘Environmental Turmoil,’ with some seemingly occasioned by visiting families, the nation remains a most popular tourist destination. Significant ‘State’ resources have been expended to ensure that visitors share and experience the warmth of the people and in its hospitality. There are fine foods and wines and liqueurs. These include a deceptive and enticingly-consumable national ‘Rum Punch.’ It shall be warned that the spirituous mixture was known to have left several consumers making request for more, only to be aided back to their resort’s rooms.
VISITOR’S ATTRACTIONS
The other ‘Visitor’s Attractions,’ include; (a) ‘The numerous white-sand beaches that nature has scattered across the nation’s short-distanced shoreline; (b) Pristine non-turbulent sea water; (c) Breath-taking sceneries and lush green vegetation. Enjoyment is security-guaranteed for both visitors and nationals alike in an enabling environment, conducive to peace of mind; (d) Marine activities that provide for excursions around the nation, extending to ‘Sister-Isle Barbuda,’ with its spectacle of secluded white and pink sand beaches, that allows for suntanning-hedonism-style.
CRIME TRIANGLE
However meteorologically predictive, accurate or inaccurate it may be, it remains undisputed that lightning has never struck twice at the same place.’ Relate such yet to be irrefutable fact to criminals and acts of criminality, none shall harbor illusions that from time to time, perpetrators of crime may not strike at the same place. Such belief shall be guided by the fundamentals of the ‘Crime Triangle.’ These include; (i) ‘An intent: (ii) A victim; and (iii) An opportunity.’ In the absence of anyone of these, a crime cannot be committed. For crime, no one knows this ‘Crime Triangle’ better than the sophisticated criminals as well as the amateurish ones.
DESTINED TO DIE – HATCHED IN CANADA
The ‘Perpetrators of Evil,’ were usually strategically-positioned to be in close proximity of the innocent victim, ‘Destined to Die’ horrible deaths. In the instant case of undoubtedly, the ‘Lured Death,’ the apparent timely and perfectly executed Act,’ such was perpetrated against the ‘Unsuspecting Wife and Son.’ From a professional perspective, their demise was clearly not hatched on mainland ‘Antigua.’ Reasonably presumed, this may have been ‘Hatched in Canada.’. In remembrance of the apparent deceived and innocent deceased ‘Mother and Son,’ unsuspectingly ‘Lured to the Bridge of the Devil’ and helplessly perished’ [November 30, 2023]. This is comprehensive.
SUSPICIOUS CONCOCTION
Instructively, the story seemingly a ‘Suspicious Concoction,’ informs; ‘…The little boy saw something and ran; …Just then, a wave came up; …He grabbed his mother’s legs; and …They both fell into the water.’ The news portals attributed these to ‘Tourism Minister Charles ‘Max’ Fernandez’ [Island Press Box (IPB): 3 Days Ago]. Though sensitivity demands that some things were not queried, and cognizance of that was said to have ‘Killed Cats,’ ‘Compelled by Temptation,’ one might curiously ask; ‘Did the little boy see and run from the devil?’ Media revelations by the ‘Minister appeared to have breached no confidential or investigative protocols. In fact, it was said to have been useful to criminal investigators on the tragedy and unfolding events.
DEVIL’S BRIDGE – TREACHEROUS SEA
Not yet grown into boyhood, adulthood or manhood. Yet a ‘5-year-old boy was taken from the comfort of his accommodation and allowed access to the ‘Bridge of the Devil.’ However, it occurred, he fell off ‘Devil’s Bridge’ into the ‘Treacherous Sea.’ He knew not that he was ‘Drowning.’ Moreover, he knew not the parable ‘A drowning man clutches at a straw to save his own life.’ Incidentally, there was none. Not even his mother was positioned to hold and cradled him in her safe and comforting arms. She too, was drowning helplessly. There was no father to grab and rescue him safety. He had reportedly, if not fakingly absent, running a quarter-mile distance to seek assistance. Both inescapably, sank beneath the sea.
CONTRADICTIONS: TORMENTING GRIEF
Though criminal investigators have been provided with ‘Contradictions’ of one kind or another, none may lend ‘Credence’ to the utterance of a man subjected to possible criminal investigation. Consequent upon the tragic turn of events on the ‘Bridge of the Devil,’ it is given clearly to understand and be remembered that; (i) ‘Those that may have been motivated, calculatedly or negligently, caused his ‘Watery Demise.’ Clearly ‘an innocent 5-year-old little boy; and (ii) Those that may fail in their investigative duty in bringing the perpetrator/s to ‘Criminal Justice.’ they shall forever feel grievingly oppressed with an increasing sense of ‘Tormenting Guilt.’ over the ‘Tragic Loss’ of his life’ [November 30, 2023].
PEOPLE: WALK ACROSS DEVIL’S BRIDGE
There was no doubt that it has always been part human nature, to be adventurous, or to do the expected. There are five ‘Classes of People’ that may riskily venture a ‘Walk’ across the ‘Bridge of the Devil.’ As it relates to visitation to ‘Bridge of the Devil,’ these represents those that are likely: (i) The adventurous: (ii) The Reckless; (iii) Risky; (iii) The Idiotic: (iv) Those with Diminish responsibility: and (v) The unsuspecting perpetrators of crime.’ These perpetrators represent the presence of evil.
LESSON I
These are intended to assist the reasoning of criminal investigators. Here begins ‘Lesson I.’ In Law enforcement and specifically, criminal investigation, and strictly from a professional perspective, ‘Ignorance and Incompetence,’ not only pose grave threat to crime-solving, but also to ‘Criminal Justice.’ Whatever has been so conceived, this concept speaks only to ‘Criminal Prosecutions,’ and not about ‘Suspected Drowning.’ Looked at from the heinous crime of ‘Murder,’ criminal investigators shall understand the ‘Common Law’ definition that guides their knowledge to effective criminal investigation and successful prosecution.
INVESTIGATIVE THEORIES
The criminal element ‘Mens Rea’ often guides ‘Investigative Theories’ and strategic approach in solving crime. Such certainly does not include; (a) ‘Speculations; (b) Prejudicial personal opinions; or (c) Pre-conceive ideas’ that often lead to; (d) Illogical and irrational conclusions.’ Such are for the ignorant, incompetent or poorly trained enforcers of ‘Criminal Law.’ For instance, in an allegation of robbery, the motive has always been for the ‘Proceeds,’ inter alia; ‘money; jewelry; cellular phones’ etc. The criminals often deprived victims of any property, including those of sentimental value, be it cherished or intrinsic.
CRIME: MOTIVES
The ‘Theories’ developed by the individual criminal investigator, invariably guide a functional understanding as to why a criminal perpetrated crime, particularly, against the innocent and unsuspecting victim. Frequently, there is a ‘Motive or Motivating Factors.’ Guided by professional knowledge, in a reasonably suspected case of ‘Murder,’ there could be; (a) ‘Motivated Greed,’ to benefit from the proceeds of crime;: (ii) A multiplicity of other reasons, notably; (a) ‘Passionate killings, arising from relationship-jealousy:-infidelities or adulterous relationship; (b) Family feuds (as the ‘Calvin ‘Burga’ James’ killing of niece ‘Tahisha Thomas and nephew’s fiancée, Sanchezca Charles’ [October 5, 2018]; (b) Retaliatory or revengeful; or (e) Killings resulting from gangsterism; or (c) Turf-war or rivalry.’
ELEMENT OF SURPRISE
In the scheme of things, the criminal, with or without accomplices or sophistication, criminals were known to have devised ‘Plans of Action.’ It begins with first forming: (a) ‘Criminal intention; (b) Identifying a vulnerable victim to be targeted; then (c) Seizing the opportunity to strike.’ This often comes with the ‘Element of Surprise.’ Unknowingly and unsuspectingly, at the ‘Opportune Time,’ the victim is pounced upon. Such victim risked being; (a) ‘Physically harmed: or (b) Robbed of property; or worst of all; (c) Deprived of life.’ Not infrequently, for other reasons, the life had been negligently, deliberately or recklessly deprived.
LESSON II
When Law enforcement informed the citizenry that Police investigators were conducting a probe into a; ‘Suspected Drowning,’ to all intents and purposes and purposes, they appeared starved of professional knowledge. Whether by inadvertence or calculation or ignorance, they had avoided the investigative term ‘Suspected Homicide.’ That has been the training of professional ‘Criminal Investigators.’ The ‘Suspected Drowning’ term has become the terminology of the ‘Ignorant and Incompetent.’0ne may ask; Why? Seemingly, with a ‘Fixation’ only on ‘Drowning,’ such often eliminated the second possibility- ‘Suspected Murder.’
TELL THIS TO FRANKIE
This speaks to an act of criminality.’ In the instant incident, only (i) ‘The ‘Sea Water Witness; (ii) Sun in the sky; (iii) Rocks; (iv) Bridge of the Devil; (v) Sea water; and (vi) A husband who reported the incident that claimed the lives of his ‘Dear???’ wife and son. Claiming that both fell off the ‘Bridge of the Devil’ into the sea, instead of jumping to ‘SAVE,’ running to a hotel to ‘SEEK’ assistance. With no offence intended, ‘Tell this to Frankie.’ While the ‘pathologist’s Report, may so confirm, such was only for the purposes of knowing the ‘Causes of Death.’ What if, deceased were physically pushed into the sea, would the ‘Causes of Death’ not be the same?’ Such question could never be posed to a ‘Simpleton.’
NAIVETY AND SIMPLICITY
Removing the discussion outside the realm of ‘Naivety and Simplicity’ and to an investigative level, do ‘Causes of Death’ speak to the ‘Circumstances’ surrounding death? That which may not have been factored into the equation, was that there were no eyewitnesses.’ This necessarily meant that criminal investigators were relying upon the explanation provided by a possible ‘Murder-suspect.’ The investigator that lacked the ‘Spirit of Discernment,’ may believe that unlike; (a) ‘The Vegetation; (b) Rocks; and (c) The Bridge of the Devil,’ ‘Dead Men Tell Tales.’
LESSON III
That which ‘British Jurisprudence’ has provided from time immemorial to be a judicial practice, and continues guide ‘Judges and Juries’ within this jurisdiction, inclusive of the ‘Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC),’ still exist. That which guides; (i) ‘Law enforcement: (ii) Coroners: (iii) Prosecutorial: and (iv) Judicial knowledge’ in ‘Criminal Evidence and Procedure’ unambiguously. states: ‘When a person of sound memory and discretion ‘Unlawfully Kills’ any reasonable creature in being, and under the ‘King’s Peace.’
ELEMENTS: MALICE
Intended that the elements’ constituting ‘Murder’ was clearly and evidentially understood, it speaks ‘Malice Aforethought.’ The Law provides to elements; (i) ‘Expressed Malice; or (ii) Implied malice,’ As if specifically given for clarity of understanding, and seemingly for the benefit of the ‘Police Strategic Communication (STRATCOM),’ it explains the legal term; ‘Unlawfully Kills: (a) ‘Death must be proved to have resulted from: (i) ‘A voluntary and deliberate Act; or (b) Culpable Omission’ on the part of an accused person. The legal experts sought to eliminate illiteracy and professional incompetence, with improved understanding of the latter. Thus, have provided additional clarifying information to criminal investigators.’
THE OMISSION
They explain; ‘The ‘Omission’ must be ‘an Omission’ of a duty imposed by Law on a parent or guardian. That which speaks to the crime of ‘Murder,’ i. e; (i) ‘Failure of a parent or guardian to attempt to ‘Rescue’ a child from ‘Drowning,’ even though involving little risk. Providing a ‘Legal Meaning:’ It states that: ‘Unlawfully means without; (a) ‘Justification: or (b) Without excuse’ [Police Promotion Handbooks: Criminal Law: Pages: 73/74]. It was not expected that the information contained herein, shall fail in any significant way, to impact the comprehension of ‘Police Press Liaison Officer, Inspector Frankie Thomas.’
LESSON IV
Moreover, should this information failed to enlighten, then ‘Criminal Justice’ would have suffered the consequences of ‘Ignorance and Incompetence.’ Moreover, should it not found to be professionally enlightening to those charged with criminal investigations, then ‘Ants’ will have been fed an early meal with the flesh of innocent victims like that for ‘5-year-old Shray Misna.’ A child of tender years, was reportedly; (i) ‘In the charge, lawful custody and care of his adult parents ‘Satwick Misna 38; and Holini Misna 37; (ii) Unknowingly and innocently taken to the ‘Bridge of Death,’ thereby caused him to be exposed and suffered ‘Perilous Consequences of Negligence’ [November 30, 2023].
SEEDS OF BELIEF
Whether or not by ‘Misadventure’ or otherwise, it has been the professional knowledge and experience that the criminals have always attempted to sow ‘Seeds of Belief’ in the minds of; (i) ‘Criminal investigators; (ii) General public; (iii) Public officials. Criminal investigators know that they shall not allow gullibility to allow neither; (a) ‘Seeds- of Belief; nor Seeds of Doubt,’ in their minds. These shall not be allowed to germinate, as to compromise ensuing criminal investigation. A classic example of such an attempt, might be discerned in this news portal story, disseminated and published on their widely visited web pages.
LESSON V
Those that lacked ‘Conscience and Reason,’ often struggled with the truth. Most were guided by preconceived ‘Ideas and Misconceptions.’ Seemingly, public officials visiting the ‘Rocky and Watery Territory of the Devil,’ and a possible ‘Crime Scene, ‘appeared to have become overwhelmed by ‘Faked Grief.’ Such criminal only needs the sympathy or empathy of one public official. They are fortified in their beliefs that they are not considered as suspect, particularly when there were dangerous utterances, based not upon verified facts, but on emotional feelings of emotions and expressions of sentimentality. These were often intended to derail thoughts or influenced public opinions and beliefs as to how some incidents may have occurred.
LESSON VI
When the ‘Misna Family,’ comprised of; (i) ‘Husband Satwick 38; (ii) Wife Mohini 37; and (iii) Son Shray 5,’ travelled to the sundrenched 170-square-miletwin-island-nation, none expected that tragedy would have struck the family with overwhelming horror’ and devastating grief.’ Research revealed that the family arrived from their country of domicile- Canada’ [November 23, 2023]. They reportedly intended, and had a leisurely ‘one-week stay.’ Mindbogglingly, as fate often has it, or as man has invariably designed it, tragedy struck.
UNSUSPECTED DECEPTION
As dastardly as some criminal acts may be viewed, whether or not provocatively or passionately, professional investigative knowledge invariably guides the thinking. As with some other crimes, ‘Murder’ was often committed with ‘Unsuspected Deception.’ This has been particularly the case in some relationships, be they intimate or business-related. Invariably, by the time victims could say; ‘Jesus Wept,’ they were under vicious criminal attacks. Such often came with the element of surprise. Aggravating the situation, was the application of force, or the threat of using it against defenceless victims.
LURED DEATH
In the ‘Lured- Death of Monique Ramsay,’ professional investigative interaction with murder-suspect ‘Ronald Gederon’ revealed that the victim was ‘Lured;’ (a) ‘Out of ‘Divine Service;’ and (b) Unsuspecting of death, led further away from her Potters family residence.’ It required only a. Bit of Deception.’ Simply deflating two tires of his motor vehicle, the murder-convict confessed to requesting a ride to his ‘Powell’s Apartment’ to fetch the lug wrench. Clearly, not necessarily to bring about her demise, such had been the ‘Mode of Operation’ of then ‘LIAT’s Pilot and fia2ncé ‘Ronald Gederon’ [Sunday, July 17, 1994].
OBSERVING EYES
As tragedy struck, the only ‘Observing Eyes’ observing the criminal act, would have been those of the ‘Evil Doer.’ From an investigative perspective, this reasonably suggested conduct capable of being described the crime of ‘Murder.’ In the case of ‘Joyce Baughman,’ the murder-convict husband, explained her presence on the roof top of the resort. Conversely, having strangled his fiancée, ‘Monique Ramsay’ at his ‘Powells’ apartment, ‘Ronald Gederon’ confessed to; (a) ‘Calling her family; (b) Called and driven around to work-colleagues and friends to ascertain her whereabouts.’
LESSON VII
Universally, in many instances, the unsuspectingly and easily ‘Lured Away and Killed.’ There have been many occurrences of the unsuspecting criminal behavior of persons enjoying very close relations with a deceased person. Lastly, the murder-convict reportedly drove to ‘Coolidge Police Station’ where deceptively, he made a ‘Missing Person Report.’ Clearly, lacking a sense of purpose and the spirit of inquisitiveness, the non-probing law enforcement officer, simply allowed the murder-accused, and eventual convict, to leave peacefully, even as frantic family members set about to ascertain her whereabouts to locate her.
LURED TO DEATH: JOYCE BAUGHMAN-2001
The other murder-convict was; (ii) ‘John Earl Baughman 55.’ Unsuspecting of death, he also ‘Lured to Death,’ his second wife, ‘Joyce Baughman 53.’ Led to the roof top of the 8-floor then called ‘Royal Antiguan Hotel,’ tragedy also struck. The cold-blooded murder explained to criminal investigators that he had invited her that they may ‘Exchange Love Notes,’ and take in the spectacular view of the surrounding environs. With some hesitation, unwillingness and timidity, she reportedly acceded to her husband’s request. However, not very long after she got to the roof-top, a residence geographically located, and immediately above the resort’s roof-top, ‘Tragedy Struck’ [Friday, June 1, 2001].
MANIFESTATIONS
From professional law enforcement knowledge, such ‘Manifestations’ may have been that occasioned by American ex-cop, described by US Law enforcement authorities as ‘Serial Killer, John Earl Baughman.’ Accused of killing a colleague and first wife, the apparent sophisticated- scheming cold-blooded murder-accused was allowed lawful entry, through the ‘V.C. Bird International Airport (VCBIA).’ So unsuspectingly posing,’ he was accorded welcome visitor’ status.
BONE-SHATTERED: LIFELESS BODY
Neither Immigration; Customs; nor Law enforcement officials had the slightest idea of his exploits as a notorious and cold-blooded murderer [June 2001]. That which was unknowingly intended, occurred. It revealed a grisly sight of his wife’s ‘Bone-Shattered Lifeless Body’ on the ground beside the foundation of the ground floor. The murder-accused voluntary explained to ‘Criminal Inv1estigations Department (CID) detective, then ‘Sergeant Alfredo Jack’ (retired Assistant Superintendent of Police), that while the deceased attempted to fetch a ‘Love Note’ from him, she accidentally fell off the rail-less roof-top.’
MOTIVE OF GREED: REASONABLE SUSPICIONS
Consequent upon ‘Background’ investigative assistance from the ‘Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI),’ evidence revealed(i) ‘A motive of greed: (ii) An intention to defraud; and (iii) An intention to kill.’ A hefty Insurance package was taken out on the ‘Life’ of his wife Joyce Baughman, just weeks before travel, confirmed ‘Reasonable Suspicions.’ Fortunately, and contradicting the explanation of the murder-accused, an eyewitness, with an overlooking and unobstructed view from the elevated residence, testified of a ‘Male pushing a female off the roof-top.’ Given the ‘Baughman/Gederon,’ it begs the probing question; ‘Could the ‘Baughman Modus Operandi’ in ‘Luring victims to death, be factored in the ‘Devil’s Bridge Tragedy?’
LESSON VIII
Most recently, the reasonably-suspected ‘Lured and Pushed-To-Death/Murder’ appears to be the second such killing, known to have been committed in this jurisdiction. The apparent ‘Tragic Visit’ by husband and father, ‘Satwick Misna,’ to the ‘Dangerous Devil’s Bridge’ with his family. Circumstances that surrounded and have claimed the innocent lives of wife and mother, ‘Holini Misna; and son ‘Shray’ [Thursday, November 30, 2023]. That which have aroused more ‘Suspicions,’ than was the availability of potable water flowing into residential dwellings in the surrounding resorts and community of ‘Willikies.’
OPPORTUNE TIME
Such ‘Suspicions’ include; (a) ‘The earliness of time, said to have been between ‘6 and 7 o’clock in the morning. It would have been just the ‘Opportune Time’ for the ‘Devil’ to have urged even an ‘unexpected push’ off his ‘Bridge.’ This was a time ideally suited for the perpetration of a crime that was intended against his ‘Wife and Son.’ This appeared to have shown consistency with the ‘Modus Operandi’ of murder-convicts;(i) ‘John Earl Baughman; and (ii) Ronald Gederon.’
DEVIL’S BRIDGE TRAGEDY
The ‘Devil’s Bridge Tragedy’ has not only become newsworthy, but have reached and dominated made the pages of most regional news portals. Seemingly, in the aftermath in which the ‘Registers of Births and Death’ may record the official ‘Causes of Death’ as ‘Drowning.’ Fundamental to the ‘Causes,’ have always been the ‘Circumstances.’ The apparent nonchalant and tardy approach to the investigation, could expose Law enforcement as being woefully inefficient; grossly incompetent; and impotent. Still, the husband and father, if criminally charged, indicted and tried at the ‘Criminal Assize,’ his explanation has the potential to show; (a) ‘Grave contributory negligence on the path of both parents; and (b) Gross parental neglect.’
LESSON IX
Prosecutorally, if such an explanation was given attestation by the Minister as explained by the little boy’s father, then such shall provide perfect contradiction to that reportedly given to criminal investigators. Moreover, it shall prove evidentially-useful at a ‘Coroner’s Inquisition.’ In the ‘Mannie James’ cold-blooded killing, seemingly it has been placed under procrastination. There has been a deafening silence on the status of investigations for either: (a) ‘Coroner’s Inquest; or (b) Criminal prosecution.’ That which appears to be at stake, could see the ‘Devil’s Bridge Tragedy,’ given priority over many others.
SANITY v INSANITY
Speaking to ‘Murder,’ judicial consequences shall not be visited upon a murder-accused, unless duly; (a) ‘Indicted; (b) Prosecuted; (c) Tried fairly; and (d) Properly found guilty.’ That which has become observable has been the efficiency of the ‘State’s Prosecutorial System (SPS). It may have been observed that murder-accused awaiting trial, and under ‘Presumption of Sanity,’ appeared to have experienced scandalous lengthy ‘Trial Delays,’ than those known to have been subjected to psychiatric evaluation or treatment for the mental condition called; ‘Diminished Responsibility.’
LESSON X
Likened to wolves, often said to have disguised themselves as sheep, without warning, instinctively attack. In the flock, there was usually one that not only believes, but occasionally exhibits ‘Wolfish Instincts.’ It does not differentiate, but viciously attacks and with its devouring instinct, it eliminates. Thus, it attacks and kills. Humans, though endowed with reason and conscience, often behave like ‘Wolves.’ Frequently, man has imitated the instinctive behavior, and likened to ‘Wolves,’ attack and destroy loved ones.
PSYCHOPATHIC TENDENCIES
Relate human behavior to ‘Criminality and ‘Criminal Psychology,’ some family members could develop and control that which the sciences have described as ‘Psychopathic Tendencies.’ People with such tendencies were said not to have shown feelings of ‘remorse or regrets.’ Professional training speaks to their inability to distinguish between ‘right and wrong.’ However, driven by fantasies and well-formed beliefs or situations, either of their own making or influenced by the environment, unsuspecting and cold-bloodedly, they often attack brutally and kill mercilessly.
LESSON XI
Even the ‘Seagulls’ as they endeavor to beak whatever marine life appeared safely divable and reachable for an early morning breakfast, it may have been observed their alertness for both (a) ‘Dangerous waves; and (b) ‘Dangerous preys.’ Certainly, not flying as high as some members of the non-feathered species of the ‘Animal Kingdom,’ the ‘Seagulls’ appear to have the instinctive capacity in sensing danger. Thus, these winged and feathered animals, appear always well positioned in avoiding perilous dives into the choppy and treacherous waters around the ‘Devil’s Bridge.’
WRATH OF THE SEA
The ‘Seagulls,’ instinctively wise and carefully astute, when seeking to eke out a meal from the sea, man, constantly avoid the ‘Wrath of the Sea.’ Conversely, humans continue to show scant regard to the unwritten restrictive laws of nature. Though not so advocated, it shall be said that a free-willed adult, may at any time; morning, noon and night, if it is to get to hell, ‘Walk’ over the ‘Bridge of the Devil.’ No ‘Safety Harness or Prayers’ are needed. The devil will take care of the ‘Soul’ of him, so walketh.
LESSON XII
Today that which the naïve professional poorly, or untrained criminal investigators and interventionist public officials, appeared not to have appreciated, was that the hardened criminal has never shown cooperative willingness’ in voluntarily ‘Confessing to Crime.’ Moreover, this category of criminals thrives on the vulnerability and gullibility of simpletons. These have been the ones not to focus on possible sinister ‘Plots and Motives. Such are considered bad for; (a) ‘Successful solving of crime; and (b) Seeks only to ‘Defeat the Ends of Justice.’
CHARGE -CUSTODY – CARE
Respecting the conduct of professional investigation, an astute criminal investigator would most likely pose probing questions to any apparent negligent parent or father. This is particularly so, for those; (a) ‘Having or charged with the physical custody and safety of a ‘5-year-old boy-child:’ and (b) The shared parental duty and responsibility for safety and protection; and care speaks wholesomely to ‘Child Welfare,’ including physical well-being and medical care.’
MENS REA
To constitute a crime, there shall be ‘Mens Rea’ or a ‘Guilty Mind.’ This specifically speaks to that which is formed in mind and intended for execution. Such identifies a particular course of action to be taken. It is conceptualized and well-internalized in the mind of the criminal. In developing the point, there is certain amount of sophistication that often goes into the planning. Then opportunistically, it is to be clinically executed. Law enforcement, therefore, shall develop a mindset for detecting ‘Transnational or Cross-Border Crimes.’ Moreover, they shall be alert and mindful of the unsuspecting visitor/status criminals.’
NATIONAL CONCERNS
Given only the explanation of the lone eyewitness, and possible ‘prime suspect’ of a husband and father, ‘National Concerns’ have been raised over the apparent ‘Lured to Death’ of a wife and son. Geographically located at the eastern end of mainland ‘Antigua,’ a little innocent 5-yer-old boy and his mother, ‘Under Mysterious Circumstances,’ temporarily submerged beneath the sea at ‘Devil’s Bridge.’ Only three people knew what had transpired. In order of first-hand knowledge; (i) ‘His Divine Creator; (ii) A evil and destructive devil; and (iii) A husband and father, provocatively or otherwise, shall not be addressed as ‘Son or minion of the devil.’ This concludes the ‘Twelfth Lesson.’
HOMEWORK
Looked at from ‘Selectivity and Inconsistency’ that which appeared to have legitimized public concerns might be seen from the referred Cases confirmed assertions, more in ‘Breach’ than ‘Practice.’ Research has revealed from ‘Law enforcement ‘Records and Court Dockets,’ that ‘Police Constable Kasroy Simon,’ who reportedly be-friended female ‘Nickoma MacFarlane 25’ and allegedly murdered the victim [March 2019]. The Constable, better-positioned than most other murder-accused, had been ordered to receive ‘Half-Pay’ while on ‘Suspension from Duty.’
POLICE OFFICER: 4-YEAR SUSPENSION
Incidentally, he was committed to stand trial at the ‘Criminal Assizes’ for: (i)’January; (ii) May; and (iii) October-2020: (iv) January; (v) May; (vi) October-2021; (vi) January; (vii) May; (viii) October- 2022; (ix) January; (x) May; (xi) October-2023.’ For some ’12- Criminal Assizes,’ while he continues to; (a) ‘Languish on Remand;’ and (b) Continues to enjoy the benefit of ‘Half Pay,’ there appeared to be no prosecutorial hurry in conducting a ‘Court-Fixtured Trial.’ Contrastingly, when murder-accused ‘Dexter Scotland’ was committed to stand trial, he was expected to appear at the ‘October-2023 Criminal Assizes’ for trial ed [June 4, 2023].
PROSECUTORIAL PREROGATIVE
This now appears possible. This may be seen from a news portal headline that states; ‘Man accused of killing Jahfari Issac to face High Court’ [Observer Media: November 29, 2023]. Irrespective of public observations or legitimacy of concerns, all shall recognize the ‘Prosecutorial Prerogative’ of a ‘Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).’ The ‘Constitution Order’ has made it clear for public officials to understand that authority resides in the ‘DPP’ to; (a) ‘Institute and undertake criminal proceedings against any person.’
POST MORTEM: CAUSES OF DEATH
On the question of ‘Luring Victims to Death,’ the innocent and naïve, appear most at risk in succumbing to the influences of the perpetrator. Even with foreseeable consequences, the perpetrator’ rarely reveal an intention.’ From the perspective of a surviving husband and father, ‘Satwick Misna,’ some accounts given for the early morning presence and tragedy, could militate against his immediate departure. He is required to be present for the purposes of identifying his deceased ‘Wife and Son’ to the ‘District Coroner Nagio Emmanuel-Edwards and a 5-member Coroner’s Jury.’ Such is fundamental to the performance of Post Mortem’ to determine the ‘Causes of Death.’
CONCLUSION
Notwithstanding, the apparent traumatized exhibition by the husband of ‘Mohini Misna and father ‘Shray Misna,’ the ‘Devil’s Bridge Tragedy,’ shall not be treated with triviality. Such incident necessarily demands extensive investigations. Closure is so dependent. While investigations for either; (i) ‘A Coroner’s Inquest; or (ii) Criminal prosecutions,’ such shall be approached open-mindedly. Faked or not; shedding crocodile tears or not, the surviving husband/father enjoys the constitutional ‘Presumption of Innocence’ [CO:1981: Section 15], The Lord ‘Taketh’ and the devil ‘Stealthily’ snatches away. Lest others suffer perilous consequences, as saith the Lord, the overseas family, may simply say; ‘Go away Satan’ [God’s Word: The Temptation: Matthew: Chapter: 4: 10]. Still, to the adventurous and reckless, when visiting the ‘Bridge of Death,’ they s

This is pure garbage. Blaming the victims is unworthy of any publication.
Agreed
@david… it’s not about blaming the victim… I have a young child and I would never put them in harms way … as a parent you have to look at all the probabilities … it was a reckless act .. if the story is true … furthermore it is a crime to endanger a minor…
GULLIBILITY AND STUPIDITY: …GOLDEN PRINCIPLE
Undergoing several ‘Criminal Investigation Training Courses, ‘REPETITIVELY’ in reinforcing that which was presented to students, facilitators ‘CAUTIONED’ not to ‘…QUICKLY ACCEPT AND BELIEVE’ what ‘…Criminal Suspects’ have said when being interviewed or interrogated.
The ‘…GOLDEN PRINCIPLE’ was this quote: ‘…The only thing that strengthens ‘…Gullibility’ is ‘…Stupidity.’
They believed it would ‘…DEFEAT THE ENDS OF JUSTICE.’
Even some ‘IDIOTS’ ‘Agreed.’
With nothing edifying to offer, ‘…Right or Wrong,’ that is what many seemed inclined to do- ‘…AGREED.’
There must be something to glean. Here, you may ‘…DISAGREE.’
READ IT ONE MORE TIME. MIGHT JUST LEARN SOMETHING.
As a trained law enforcement professional, you are addressing the situation through those lens. I was suspicious about the time and motive of choosing to go to Devils Bridge. There needs to be a thorough investigation into the fathers background in Canada? How was their family life? Were life insurance recently issued? There are so many angles that need to be investigated. We must keep in mind that lots of criminals chose the Caribbean for their crimes because they perceive the police to be inept. I am sorry for the loss of the mother and child, but there are lots of holes that need to be filled. I hope the police thoroughly investigates this “accident.”
I agree with what you are saying but I would not call him or consider him to be a criminal suspect until you have clear evidence or you can articulate a reasonable basis that such person should be considered to be a suspect in a crime.
I believe stating this will encourage officers to treat others with respect and in accordance with their constitutional rights.
Do not be quick to call someone a suspect until. I have known of people who sat in prison/jail base on evidence no reasonable person could have concluded a criminal act occurred.
I do not think base on what I rear there is sufficient evidence at this time. More investigations need to occur and evidence justifying such suspicion must be had first, if they exist.
So I have to respectfully say that let us take care
I am not saying anyone was guilty but I immediately thought of something. It would have made me inquire/investigate.
Hopefully after doing such, the person alive would be cleared or not cleared.
I do find it strange to be getting up at 6am to go to devils Bridge but I can also appreciate what could lure tourist there at that time.
I would not have imputed any illegal and immoral act upon this person until some kind of reasonable evidence is had to justify a different kind of investigation.
I want to know does the Canadian lady have life insurance, how recent was it taken out. Who is the Beneficiary? Any past relationship problems, phone records of the alive husband, did he have knowledge of his wife inability to swim if she can’t? Who decided to come to Antigua?
These are some questions I would ask and investigate thoroughly.
@my way of helping. Online search shows that the father, Satwik Misra, is associated with/director of an investment company in Toronto. My question is why would they not be spending their holiday at a beach resort with lots of sand for the son to play? I think Mr. Pompey’s analysis is very on point.
When the dust settles, and the emotions calm down several things can come into play..,
1…Child Endangerment can be considered, but the child was allegedly with his mother!
2…This probably wasn’t done(speculation); but, was blood drawn from the father and the mother to check for drugs/alcohol?
All National Parks should have a manned Guard Station 24 hours, and in the case of Devils Bridge, a Life Guard with the proper equipment(s).
Some cheap solar powered video cameras can be installed for security purposes and monitoring!

I agree with the writers assessment of this entire saga. It would be foolhardy to overlook all the other possible scenarios in what to me sounded unbelievable from the onset. I think that we were too quick to accept the bereaved husbands version of events without a proper and thorough investigation.
Can you imagine the outrage via this forum and talk radio locally had this happened to a local. Cry of negligence, child endangerment, blah blah blah…but no as it was a tourist and I dear say of the lighter colored hue even those in authority wants us to believe it was an accident. The still water akin from the review Jordan was present before them all all they were seeking to do was to just take a dip.
Get real people this whole issue must have more to it!!!
You know, there’s none other than the indomitable Mr. Pompey, who could have analyzed this matter to this extent, via social media no less… At least, I don’t know of anyone!
Mr. Pompey, I truly appreciated this analysis, (as well as the several chuckles and occasional uproarious gales of laughter🤭 – over your seemingly deliberate play upon words and phrases) afforded throughout this commentary.
From the very outset, while I was sympathetic to the surviving spouse/parent, I had more than a few
questions and concerns about this entire incident, and commented as such on an earlier article. Of course, my unlearned, non-law-enforcement-trained mind/brain, could not so legally, deeply, nor eloquently expound on the matter.
Others above commented on whether “recently secured life insurance policies” were held. But I posit, that the policy(ies) need NOT BE RECENT: even one as old as the child, or even older (perhaps even as long as the marriage) could constitute towards motive, and also speak to pre-meditation… That is to say, the plan could have been hatched long ago, but this was the ‘OPPORTUNE TIME’ – the long game, if you will.
Suffice it to say, whether the named beneficiary of a policy (particularly on the life of the child) is the mother/wife or even their estate, it might still neccesitate a closer examination…because ultimately, with the mother/wife now deceased, the father/husband automatically becomes beneficiary of their estates (except if he is found to be complicit in their demise).
The seemingly ‘innocent plan’ to catch the beautiful sunrise ☀, is not in and of itself suspicious – it is rather romantic actually. However, the spectacle of the sunrise could have been enjoyed, unobstructed, from the safety of the vehicle, or next to it if they wanted to frame photos with it in the background.
It was unnecessary, indeed very reckless, to get that close to the ‘Bridge of the Devil’ to ‘enjoy the sunrise’. Especially with a minor child afoot!
One commentator was of the view that the author should have ‘refrained from considering the survivor as a suspected criminal’. But Sir or Madam, I dare to agree with the author: IMO, as the only ‘eyewitness’ (and if there were others), logically he is (as would they all be) considered a suspect(s), until careful and thorough investigations eliminate or rule him (or them) out. He ought to be considered a suspect: that does not AFFECT HIS PRESUMPTION OF INNOCENCE, as enshrined in the constitution.
Anyway, let me just say that I agree with the author! Oftentimes, Sir, your articles have gone over my head, or at a minimum, boggle my mind… NOT THIS TIME! I was fortunate to be able to follow you every step of the way 😊…right down to the comparative ‘lured-to-death cases’ you cited. Coincidentally, those same two cases came to my mind, the very day I heard of this incident!
Truly, I am thankful that ‘people with law enforcement training’, ‘people with sway/clout’, in this country, are asking questions and stirring up the powers that be to look deeper and harder; Investigate! Investigate! Investigate!
Let’s hope that our criminal investigators at least took photos at the scene on the day in question, to preserve any evidence, even though they may not have thought it was evidence.
And at the end of the day, if it turns out that this was a crime, do everything necessary to ensure successful prosecution. Then make sure that we do not bring any ‘sympathetic foreign entities’ here to mind our prison, who will ‘help Mr. Convict’ back to his domicile-country to disappear! Maybe this is a good time to restart the debate to reintroduce capital punishment in this 270-square-mile-twin-island-nation!
This is easily the biggest pile of horse$#it I’ve ever read. The author should be ashamed of himself, as should the commenters suggesting that the husband is criminally responsible. There were independent witnesses to this terrible accident who have been interviewed by local police; the husband himself had to be rescued by an eyewitness after jumping into the water to attempt to rescue his family.
This “article” is not journalism in any sense; it’s a hit piece by an author (who doesn’t even seem to be able to write coherently n English, and gets the victims’ names wrong multiple times) apparently attempting to make a name for himself. Do better.
This is just incredible. I will never visit here nor will I recommend anyone from outside of the Caribbean to ever come here as a tourist. I can’t believe this is published by a news outlet.
You are nuts. People who think like you are a danger to tourists.
They were probably tired, excited, thinking of the day ahead which included packing and a long plane ride home. In a few moments of bleary eyed sleepiness and awe at the tropical sunrise and ocean view, they misjudged safety. It’s happened before it will happen again.
TAKE SOME DAMNED SAFETY MEASURES. PUT UP POSTS THAT HAVE LONG POLES ATTACHED AND FLOTATION DEVICES WITH ROPE – LIKE THE REST OF THE WORLD DOES WHEN NEAR THE OCEAN. PUT SIGNS UP AS A REMINDER TO BE CAUTIOUS
You didn’t even bother to get their names correct.
