Antigua and Barbuda Government Planned Operation Of Cancer Centre by Early 2024

PRESS RELEASE

The United Progressive Party (UPP) calls on the Gaston Browne Administration – in particular Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph – to come clean on its plans to resuscitate the now-defunct Cancer Centre.

Credible reports reaching the UPP have indicated that the Executive has agreed to a private deal with a local doctor and other investors – including a “silent partner” in the Cabinet – to take over the facility.

The Cancer Centre, through compulsory acquisition, became public property in 2023.

Therefore, the UPP insists that any plans for its sale, its shareholding, and its operation must be conducted in an open and transparent manner, in keeping with the provisions of the Tenders Board Act and the Procurement and Contract Administration Act.

No legitimate entity, whether local or international, should be denied the opportunity to bid on the pretext of national interest or urgency.

The Cancer Centre was intended to form part of this country’s healthcare infrastructure and it provided critical services to local and regional patients.  Its demise – with the full knowledge of both Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Sir Molwyn – was an indictment on this Administration.

Therefore, their indifference and neglect must not be allowed to inure to the benefit of hand-picked owners or operators rather than to the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

At a time like this, when the public-health system is in shambles – with hospital facilities lacking and clinics closed – and when the cost of private medical care has increased due to the hike in the sales tax – the poor, the sick, and the suffering must not be further exploited for private gain.

Sir Molwyn must come clean to the Nation on this deal.

  1. Point well taken. There is always something sinister and clandestine about this Gaston Browne led ALP government. They are greedy and consumed with the self-enrichment idea borne out of the lunatic mind of the DAWG.
However, we can get no audited, annual report of the country’s finances for 10 years; 2.16 million goes unaccounted for intended to build a cemetery; the infamous NAMCO exist with never a report tabled about it’s finances; ALP ministers hands are in everything; don’t expect any response anytime soon.
Gaston Browne and his cabinet of misfits must be first removed from office for this to go anywhere.
The fact is, since the death shots, cancers have exploded with no respecter of person or age. The treatment cost is astronomical, and these sharks smell money. Look for some underhanded deal with some minister in the background collecting their share.

  2. Here is an example of Samantha K. Rodrigues how Antigua media is crap.
The answers being sorted here should have resulted from questions at the Cabinet Notes briefing.
Now rather than news worthy item it has become political. The public needs to know but will never know the truth for it’s now political

    • @Casual. Who the hell fault is that? If ABLP was transparent, no questions would have had to be asked.
Now that is out of the way, see if you can find out who the “silent partner” who is going to benefit from the sale is, and let us know.

No need to be so toxic.

But given you have gone there. I’ll explain with an analogy. First I’ll begin with the public, who neither demands or are they willing to pay for deeply sourced news. A deeply sourced journalist woul be able to inform the public who is the “silent partner”.

Asking ABLP to be transperant. How can a currupt governemnt be transperant when there is no public pressure on them to be transperant.

The ABLP did not suddenly lack transperancy. Lack of transperancy is in their DNA.

That’s why they hang on the the outmoded colonial processes including the libel laws. A law that puts the burden of proof on the person being sued for libel.

I don’t see ot hear any clammering to change those laws. Whose fault is that? Its the public who knows the ABLP are a bunch of thieves. They make it load and clear they are going to steal by “Creative Enrichment”.

If you are told a bunch of known bugglers are saying they love your car. Do you leave it running, with the keys in the ignition? Whose fault is that if on your return the car is gone?

The fault stem from the laws that most of the public are clueless about. Antigua and barbuda has some of he most draconian laws with egards to Libel. As seen in the current situation with Ms Quinn, the CREATIVELY ENRICHED is threatening to sue for libel. The structure of the laws are weighted in favour of the CREATIVELY ENRICHED

Whose fault is that? The Gang of Cratively Enriched…The Public who is clueless.. The Opposition Party who lacks the the insight to understand what they are faced with.

Eventhough I’m a Casual Observer, I fully understand transperancy is just a small part of a deeply flawed national policies beginning with the libel laws which BTW the lawyers love and they are part of the problem and should be also faulted.
