Cogging again: Cabinet’s plans to transform Tanner Street already outlined in UPP’s 2023 manifesto, Tabor points out

REAL NEWS –  The Gaston Browne Cabinet’s plan to transform Tanner Street into a pedestrian mall appears to be an idea stolen from the United Progressive Party (UPP).

According to the September 28 Cabinet Notes, the Executive has agreed to a development plan that will “allow brightly coloured uniform shops to be located along the roadway in an effort to make the City of St. John’s more attractive.”

But this was among the many plans outlined in the UPP’s 2023 manifesto, points out Damani Tabor, the Party’s public relations officer.

And while the Administration has indicated its intentions to undertake the project, Tabor is not optimistic that it will have the follow-through.

He says the Browne Administration is a talk shop that seeks to hijack other people’s ideas.

However, it is unable to execute them properly – if at all – and is usually incapable of maximizing the public benefits.

Meanwhile, addressing the condition of the commercial centre, the Executive says that owners will be encouraged to improve the aesthetics of their buildings.

Accordingly, Tabor is asking whether these owners will be receiving any incentives from the Government to spur this beautification drive.

On a related matter, Tabor says that sanitation in St. John’s needs to be addressed urgently, and he calls for the promised central sewage system – for which monies were already obtained from the Kuwaiti Fund – to be completed.

  1. I cannot agree that one who is elected taking good ideas from wherever and implementing it for the betterment of the country to be clogging. It can’t be.

They come up with the cure for cancer, another cannot invest in it?

I do agree that the person who came up with the idea should be given credit but ideas to better a country when expressed, can be uses, in this context, by anyone to better the country. Referring to this context, politics.

  2. Who ever, which ever government, It’s about time. As a top tourist destination and with the largest cruise ships destin for January, even more must be done. I still which for a beautiful green space, with shade trees, flowers, nicely cut lawn, a few benches, water fountains and perhaps a few slides for kids.

  3. UPP can’t fool some people buy can’t fool enough- This was an Idea from the Department of Environment about 5 years now…… y’all tried the same thing with the University- in 2008 the late Lester at a campaign rally spoke about starting a University of Antigua and Barbuda 2 weeks later Jacqui Quinn claim to start a university committee(after Lester’s announcement).

    • And while you keep sounding foolish trying to defend the indefensible, we haven’t had water for 4 consecutive days. Does this sound real to you? ALP is hurting the citizens of Antigua and Barbuda. It seems like living in a South East Asian Country.

    • @ Iman

Just shut to hell up if you do not know or cannot quote correctly.

ABLP is totally void of ideas and CONSTANTLY copy’s all that the UPP does or say, even the Top Dawg admits to ‘matching anything the UPP promises’, as if he’s not embarrassed.

You are just a bunch of huffers and DUPEES, if there is ever such a word.

  4. WWHONCARES & WHY DOES IT MATTER? IT’S THE SAME ANTIGUA! GLAD THEY ARE IMPLEMENTING IDEAS FROM THE OPPOSION. IT JUST PROVES THAT ABLP CANNOT RUN THE NATION BY THEMSELVES. ALSO SHOW THAT WE NEED TO COMMEND AND ACKNOWLEDGE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE OPPOSITION IN FUELING ECONOMIC AND INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT. TIME TO STOP THIS PART FOOLISHNESS!!!

  5. Of course they are cogging. Again. So what’s new with this dunce, corrupt, greedy government?
All they do is sit in that Cabinet and come up with all kinds of nothing. They will do nothing.
Pixie and Max walked through St. Johns months ago. Nothing happened. Now you want to fool people with this?
And that idiot at the helm, giving away our country under the guise of projects. Where are they today?
All these clowns do is talk, talk, talk. The only ones they’re impressing are the traitors and Judases. Please.

  6. Yes. Agree with Carvaa and “my way of helping”. We acknowledge that UPP is a party of ideas and sound policies and we give them credit for that. But the Government in power has to implement, whether they borrow the ideas from others or not. The rejuvenation of St. John’s is long overdue. But, for Heavens sake, put together a team of Experts to run the project, Town Planners, Architects and Engineers. Let the Politicians focus on finding the budget and pushing though any needed legislation.

  7. Who K, that has been banded about years ago. As long as we get something going, that’s what important.
