Coates makes way for Lovell to contest All Saints West seat; Pringle expresses appreciation to both
Barbara Coates, the United Progressive Party (UPP) Caretaker for All Saints West (ASW), has withdrawn from the upcoming election slate and made way for Harold Lovell to fill that position in a move that was fully endorsed by Political Leader Jamale Pringle, the ASW Branch, and influential constituents on Thursday night, August 7, 2025.
The transfer follows Coates’ consultation with her Executive and campaign team and her subsequent proposal to MP Pringle that the veteran Lovell replace her.
A constituent of ASW, himself, Lovell had been fending off requests from a wide cross-section of voters to throw his hat back into the political ring from which he retired in January 2023. However, after a great deal of introspection and consultation, he said, he yielded to Coates’ request, and his return was enthusiastically welcomed at the night’s event.
The Political Leader said he is very happy to have Lovell back, and he praised him for answering the call to serve – even though, he admitted, he had hoped to have him do so in another constituency. He commended Lovell’s decades of service and his undisputed loyalty to the UPP, noting that his experience and knowledge are assets not only to the Party but to the Country.
MP Pringle expressed confidence that the two sister-constituencies – Lovell’s All Saints West and his All Saints East & St. Luke – would be in the winning column next election.
The Political Leader also expressed gratitude to Coates for the time she invested as Caretaker and her success in holding the Party Branch together over the past year. Further, he said, her decision to concede her position on the slate speaks to Coates’ unselfish nature and is an admirable demonstration of putting the Party ahead of self.
Coates will remain active in the ASW constituency by serving on the Branch Executive and as a member of Lovell’s campaign team.
