China to help Antigua build Forensic Lab

10

CABINET NOTES: The Minister of Legal Affairs, the Attorney General, gave Cabinet the assurance that construction of a building to house the Forensic Department of the Royal Police Force is moving forward.

A team of Chinese experts will arrive Antigua before Christmas 2023; they will complete the first steps in the building process now that the land has been assigned.

The forensics that are currently undertaken overseas cost a significant amount, and take a very long time for results to be returned.

Hence, completing of the important work in solving crimes and carrying out DNA investigations will be undertaken in Antigua, beginning sometime next year 2024.

  1. I thought that said lab eus due to be operational in a few weeks. Was that another promise made and another promise unkept. They should rename the party to Antigua Lying Pipedream Party.

  2. China is not mentioned amongst the top countries for forensic science. One has to conclude that the reason Antigua keeps on dealing with Communist China is for the most likely exorbitant payoffs included into the way overpriced loans (that we, the people pay) for what is usually substandard building materials, labour force and equipment. Can’t say that the stadium, airport, harbour, hospital plus some are visual examples of great workmanship and quality. They are however perfect examples of rip-off loans that we are not capable of paying, which is exactly what the Chinese want to happen so they can take control of Antigua as is also happening in the other islands and Africa. All because of politicians’ self-enrichment greed and stupidity!

    • @Jeb stop with the lies, the loans we have received from China have been at a concessionary rate eg 3 percent. You also know they have given us millions in grants. Just the other day we were looking at a loan for the airport and the rate there involving Credit Suisse is some 7 percent. You may recall, when the UPP was in office the same credit suisse provided us loans with 12 percent interest. I know you have an axe to grind with China, but experts on the topic, even ones from the USA ( Deborah Brautigam, ) make clear we do get value from these Chinese government loans. Its easier to get a moratorium on the Chinese loans than any other. Seems to me the main costs and hence focus for the forensic lab is not about its construction costs but its operational costs (specifically staffing, equipment)

      • @ Tenman

And what was the rate on the ACB loans to APUA?

And what is the rate on the IMF loan—–oh yes, IT IS NOT 1%—you guys sick my stomach. Its like heads you win and tails I lose.

  3. Everything is China. China has been noted to use all their own products and hardware when building projects overseas with everything in Chinese. Not even regular screw drivers can be used in their screws. They built railroads and suppled trains in Africa and the Africans can’t operate them because every thing is in Chinese. When they build the lab will the instructions be in English or we are going to have to employ Chinese?
They are supposed to be building condominiums in Bobby Alley. Hope the plumbing works and Antiguans can fix it.
Antigua has become too dependent on China. Their aid involves bringing in their own people and most don’t leave.
This present Antiguan government is nothing but a waste. With all the monies they collect, they can never find money to do anything, but all they do is beg.

  4. They are getting the Chinese to build and repair everything but the water problem. Do you not see Gaston is trying to hold Antigua hostage with water?

  5. @ Tenman (Mr. Insider)

You are among another ABLP defenders who are quick to say others are lying.

To quickly label others liars weaken your case.

That’s narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), or borderline personality disorder (BPD a trait known as “projection”.

Interesting, also appear to have figures at your disposal which are not published or publicly available to the public.

Given the Chinese built the airport, using prisoners labor resulting in deficiencies; and they give Antigua concessions rates, why is Gaston going to Credit Swiss?

I will not call you a liar, but as usual here is something fishy going on here.

Credit Swiss was one of the banks that failed during the Silicon Valley Bank conjugation. It was taken over by UBS its much smaller rival.

How can Antigua and Barbuda be borrowing $200 million from a bank that dies not any longer exists?

And by the way only 10% of the money being borrowed will be used on the airport. Explain that Mr. Insider
