SOURCE-DOMINICA NEWS ONLINE- China has trashed comments made by Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a meeting with heads of government of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) describing them as biased, disrespectful and ignorant of international relations norms.
On May 6, leaders of the OECS, including Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit met with Rubio in Washington DC and Rubio specifically warned them about China, a sign that the US was concerned over growing Chinese influence in the region.
“Secretary Rubio urged our partners to make responsible, transparent decisions when selecting vendors and contractors for critical infrastructure projects, ensuring they are not vulnerable to privacy and security risks and exploitation by malign actors like the Chinese Communist Party,” a release by State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said after the meeting.
China did not take the comments by Rubio lightly with the Chinese embassy in The Bahamas saying that China firmly opposed them and that they “revealed ideological bias and disrespect and ignorance of the basic norms in international relations.”
According to the statement, projects that China are involved in address needs for development and economic growth.
“Chinese-invested projects, whether ports or other facilities, aim to address local development needs, foster economic growth, and create employment opportunities,” the statement said.
It said the Caribbean is not the sphere of influence for any one nation.
“The outdated Cold War mentality and zero-sum game thinking should be abandoned and an open and inclusive approach should be adopted toward China’s cooperation with Latin America, the Caribbean, and The Bahamas. The world is vast enough to accommodate the common development and shared progress of all nations,” the Chinese Embassy pointed out.
Dominica and China share an extremely cozy relationship with the Asian nation undertaking several major infrastructural projects on the island, including the construction of the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital (formerly the Princess Margaret Hospital) and the new Dominica Grammar School, the rehabilitation of the Dominica State College and the EO LeBlanc Highway. Additionally, China has sponsored the rehabilitation or construction of several schools and many other projects across the island. It was recently announced that China will be building a distribution center for Chinese goods in Dominica.
Following the meeting, Skerrit said Dominica’s relationship with China has been “very transparent’ and Beijing has been a major ally in the economic and social development of the island.
“What China is doing for Dominica is open for everybody to see, whether it’s the construction of schools or the hospital or the roads or support to farmers and small businesses or housing…” he stated. “China will continue to be a very strong and steadfast friend of Dominica. I don’t think our relationship with any country should be based on any
other country’s relationship with that country.”

Well china is a grown man, most African leaders and people and Caribbean leaders are still infantilized under the white supremacists doctrine that we are little boys and girls that can’t take care of ourselves, and so need the Rothschild family company call IMF to manage our economy after lending us peanut cash and all the multiple foreign religious corporation here as church we attend every Sundays and Saturdays to be socially engineered or harvesting our people brains to maintain the neocolinial project of poverty. Our leaders salivate at the mouth to hear the lowest civil servant in America summoned them to their metropolis and instruct them and have them sign things they don’t understand, they move with urgent alacrity to jump on flights at the tax payers expense to go on these sight seeing vacations, unless we grow up from that white ideology towards us from since slavery where a black grandpa up to the age of 90 was called boy by these little young teenage planters who own the estate, I wonder if the entire black world including the Caribbean is the estate of the planters hegemony system today?
How much progress do we make when we shift from the usury and tyranny of the IMF to the usury and tyranny of the China state banking system? Will black nations, with our abundant natural and human resources be forever bound, body and mind, to the will and manipulation of some foreign overlord? When will we find leaders with the capacity and vision to forge our own path?
The US and China really need to stop using small island nations to fight their battles.
Rubio always seems to have something to say about the Caribbean—but does he actually help us?
Can we focus on what’s best for the region, not what China or the US wants?
Wish the Caribbean could develop without being in the middle of global rivalry.
China is like a man who would promise a woman anything just to take her from the man she is with. China has seen an opportunity and is busy wooing these impoverished, inflated self-opinionated micro leaders who believe the trinkets and the shiny beads in the form of airports and roads, etc would add even a minute percentage of development to their country compared to what they would be giving away.
China is very calculating. We have many things she wants to consolidate her position as world super power, namely, our proximity to the United States, which with Trump’s help, is fast losing foothold on the islands at her back door.
No one knows where our people get the idea that the Chinese really want to see us develop out of love in their hearts. It is a cold and calculated decision that was made to take us over. One can only pray that we don’t see this ploy too late. Most of us have our relatives and friends in North America. We are welcomed there despite the current madness displayed by Donald Trump. If we should make the foolish mistake of giving our all to the Chinese, it will be the end of life as we know it. Right now, we ought to be thinking of appropriate ways to deal with our leaders who are so willing to hand us over to the Chinese for baubles, trinkets and beads.
The stick that broke in our ear has firmly planted itself there. Can’t even rely on the youths to give our present situation some serious thought. They are too busy lining up for their trip to China to buy some cheap stuff.
Incidentally, in another cycle of our development, our children are being taught to speak the colonizer’s language even though they cannot speak their own.
Sounds and looks familiar?
This gentleman has to stop this foolishness. Mr Rubio did not come here to see him. He was part of a delegation of his regional peers that met and held discussions with Rubio.
He has to stop doing that nonsense. He has so much but it seems he is still trying very hard to look like a big thing. The media is not helping too. Not sure whether they were paid to do this but they are writing the stories and presenting him as though Rubio came for bi-lateral talks with him.
How pathetic this looks. Embarrassing too.
