This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the Caribbean island nation. Sun Tianyuan reports.
SUN TIANYUAN Beijing “Foreign Minister Qin Gang has met the foreign minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Paul Chet Greene.
Qin welcomed the minister who is Beijing for the Forum on Global Human Rights Governance and thanked him for his support for China’s human rights development.”
Qin says Antigua and Barbuda is a good friend and reliable partner of China in the Caribbean region.
He says both countries have understood and supported each other on issues of core interest and major concerns since establishing diplomatic ties four decades ago.
China sees the anniversary as an opportunity to boost cooperation in various sectors.
Greene says Antigua and Barbuda attaches great importance to its relationship with China, adding that China is its most important partner for cooperation.
He says his country will adhere to the One China principle, describing it as a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations.
Adding that Antigua and Barbuda wants to strengthen cooperation with China in infrastructure, economy and agriculture.
The two foreign ministers expressed concern about Japan’s move to discharge treated nuclear wastewater from the Fukushima power plant into the sea and its possible impact on the global marine environment and public health.
They urged Japan to effectively address what they described as relevant issues in an open, transparent and responsible manner.
