The perennial battle between the St. Joseph’s Academy and the Baptist Academy for top honours in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations continued this year, with a student from the Catholic school taking the No. 1 spot.

During a press conference on Thursday, September 8, Director of Education Clare Browne announced that Chidindu D. Ohaegbulam is Antigua and Barbuda’s top CSEC performer.

The St. Joseph’s student walked away with 23 passes: 21 Grade Ones and two Grade Twos.

Browne says the second- and third-placed students could not be announced, as yet, since the grades were very close.

Accordingly, a process to determine these two spots will have to be followed, at the end of which the names will be made public.

The Director took the time to congratulate and encourage all the students who sat the annual exams, saying that their steadfast work had paid off.

This school year, and going forward, Browne says, the Ministry of Education will provide the necessary tools to ensure that students receive the best education possible.
