Central Board of Health Takes Vigorous Measures to Ensure Public Safety During Carnival Season
The Central Board of Health (CBH) prioritizes public health during the Carnival season, and plans to hire over 100 additional staff to maintain sanitation and safety standards.
With a focus on food safety and general health, the CBH aims to prevent any food-borne or other diseases among carnival attendees.
The CBH’s responsibilities include clearing the Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG) and cleaning the city streets for the festival’s various events.
They conducted food safety training for food vendors to ensure proper certification and adherence to health standards.
Public Health Inspectors will be vigilant, checking for proper food handling, hygiene, and protective equipment during the festivities.

Good Street vending of food is running wild in Antigua and Barbuda, and it is scary to think what could happen if we have some outbreak of a foodborne disease in Antigua. Even our Tourism product would suffer. I have seen many of these food vendors operating in some very unhygienic circumstances. No running water, no head cover, no apron. Same person dealing with food dealing with money. You name it. I mean you want to have people making a buck or two during this carnival season, but not at the detriment of the public health. CBH needs to do their job and start inspecting all these street food vendors. Ensuring that they have their Food Handling Certificate, and they are applying good and healthy food handling practices. Keep our people Safe from Food Born Diseases.
Can one of the hundred employees visit Lauchland Benjamin drive and take stock of the narsy wash kin and other bathroom water that is flowing from the apartment down to the intersection that leads to Epicurean. Infront Canada Place is so unsightly with this water. Worse is when it splashes on other vehicles.
