Funeral Held for Former ABHTA Chairman Alex de Brito
Family, friends, and members of the hospitality sector gathered this morning at the Holy Family Catholic Cathedral for a celebration of life for former Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) Chairman Alex de Brito.
The funeral service, held at 10:00 a.m., honoured de Brito’s enduring legacy in the tourism industry and his deep affection for Antigua and Barbuda. Attendees included industry leaders, colleagues, and loved ones who remembered him as both a visionary hotelier and a cherished friend.
Craig Marshall, current ABHTA Chairman and Regional Commercial Director for Blue Diamond Resorts in the West Indies, reflected on de Brito’s leadership and friendship. “Alex led from the front. He was never afraid of tough situations, and we leaned on him—not only as professionals but as friends,” he said during his tribute.
Marshall, who succeeded de Brito as ABHTA Chairman, said de Brito had a profound impact on his own leadership journey. “We shared many conversations over glasses of red wine. His advice, his laughter, and his friendship will stay with me always.”
The ABHTA extended condolences to de Brito’s family, praising his life of service and commitment to the development of the hospitality sector in Antigua and Barbuda.
“Alex, we’ll miss you,” Marshall said. “Rest in peace, my friend.”
