The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has raised the COVID-19 level in Antigua and Barbuda to four — its highest ranking.

In an advisory to its citizens on March 1, the CDC said travellers should avoid all travel to Antigua and Barbuda as it may increase risk of getting and spreading COVID-19.

It advised US citizens that if they must travel, the following guidelines should be taken:

Before you travel, get tested with a viral test one to three days before your trip. Do not travel if you are waiting for test results, test positive, or are sick. Follow all entry requirements for your destination and provide any required or requested health information.

During travel, wear a mask, stay at least six feet from people who are not travelling with you, wash your hands often or use hand sanitiser, and watch your health for signs of illness.

Before travelling back to the United States, get tested with a viral test one to three days before travel. Follow all destination and airline recommendations or requirements.

After you travel, get tested three to five days after travel AND stay home for seven days after travel.

If you don’t get tested, it’s safest to stay home for 10 days.

If you had a known exposure to COVID-19 while travelling, delay travel, quarantine from other people, get tested, and monitor your health.

The agency’s 4-level system categorises destinations into four levels. They are – Level 4: Very high level of COVID-19; Level 3: High level of COVID-19; Level 2: Moderate level of COVID-19 and Level 1: Low level of COVID-19.

  1. Had the government taken the warning back then and changed course, several b people would still be alive today.

Congratulations Gaston. You’ve killed tourism and your citizens.

  2. Avatar photo Never demanded your Leaders to change the protocols and in doing that put at risk you and your love ones very lives AMAZING !.

I’ve seen people on here being called names for even suggesting anything other than the talking points . No qurantine for Tourists they’re bearers of good will BUT ALSO COVID . Good luck people you will need it .

  4. From November 24, 2020:

““Antigua’s positivity COVID-19 rate is too high, and its testing is woefully low based on the CDC criterion,” a Washington source tells REAL News.

“The country’s data is faulty and unreliable.”

The source says the US medical fraternity – as well as local doctors – believes “Antigua has been grossly under-reporting COVID-19 cases” and that the country “has pretty high community spread.”

  5. The APL needs to hold an emergency party convention and remove Gaston from the leadership of the party. Let someone else be prime minister. He is a threat to the health and well being of Antiguans and Barbudans. This should happen forthwith.

    • And what will moving Gaston Browne really do. Will it make people follow the protocals? Will the make people wear their mask, social distance, wash hands ect. Will that make the people placed in quarantine stay in quarantine. When will we the people start to take personal responsibility for our own health or will we continue to blame Gaston Browne, blame tourist, blame everyone else expect ourselves because that is easier right?

      • The only way to keep the country safe is to keep the disease from entering at the border

People who work and/or have to ride public transportation and/or have to go to the bank and supermarket and pharmacy have no way to avoid being around others.

Even wearing an N95 mask does not give 100% protection and you can’t find N95s anywhere on island.

Cloth masks give much less protection.

People can and do get ill following all the protocols.

The current crisis is 100% due to government negligence and greed.

They invited disease in and repeatedly told the public everything was fine and we’re COVID free and hid related deaths.

        This is on your government.

        • And what is Antigua main industry again? What has caused thousands to be jobless since last year March? How will government generate revenue again? Or is all that just greed? Easy for you to say close borders but there are people who are relying on the very same tourist to make a living. And again what would moving Gaston Browne will do cause I’m sure anyone else be it Harold Lovell, Balwin Spencer or whoever would do the same exact thing. But again easier to blame Gaston Browne, government and tourist right?

          • If you think the response so far is okay, then there’s something wrong with you.

The borders are wide open. Complete free for all for people from high disease countries.

And thousands are still out of work.

And now your country is teaming with disease and death.

So no, genius this didnt have to be done and it shouldn’t have been done.

  6. “The crisis situation remains manageable; the health systems are not overwhelmed.” Cabinet Report Weds 17 Feb 2021
    Seems CDC disagrees.
