C&W staff on a mission all across the Caribbean

(PRESS RELEASE)

Employees across all  Cable & Wireless markets in the Caribbean and Latin America celebrated the company’s annual “Mission Day” recently by leading several community partnership programs and internal activities across the region.

‘Mission Day’ is a company led activity where team members come together to support a variety of community projects. This year, the focus was two-fold: work with the C&W Charitable Foundation to raise funds to support employees and communities impacted by the recent devastating floods in Trinidad and Tobago; and to create special moments in communities across the region where they live and work.

Dom Boon, VP of People and Communications for C&W Communications said, “This was a true demonstration of how passionate our employees are about supporting the communities that they live and work in. This annual event embodies the way that we live and breathe the new Liberty Latin America philosophy –we know that kindness is not an option – it just is.”  On Mission Day employees from Trinidad to Panama and Costa Rica to Seychelles all came together and worked as one team with a common purpose.  They executed 19 volunteer projects and 13 internal fundraisers and they raised over US$18,000 to be donated to Trinidad and Tobago Flood relief initiative.

Employees across Latin America and the Caribbean carried out fundraising and

community building initiatives in recognition of Mission Day 2018

The teams worked with local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to support their community initiatives.  They also helped to refurbish local schools and undertook several community and beach clean-up projects including painting and planting flowers; some employees provided career counselling and gave motivational talks at juvenile correctional facilities while other employees distributed care packages with the assistance of community nurses to shut-ins, amputees and persons living with disabilities.

Many schools including two for children with disabilities celebrated an early Christmas receiving a visit from Santa Claus who handed out gifts to all.  Other children enjoyed a movie under the stars with plenty of popcorn and fun.

Regional employees came out in full force on Mission day to help support hundreds of families in Trinidad who lost everything to the Floods.  In addition to raising funds to support the recently announced US$100,000 relief and recovery initiative by the C&W Charitable Foundation, employees also raised funds to refurbish the Bridge of Hope orphanage that was damaged during the floods.

Another significant regional project this year included community activities in Dominica where families are still rebuilding from damaging hurricanes just over a year ago. The local team is partnering with the All Hands and Hearts Charity to help with the rebuilding of the Morne Prosper Primary School that was destroyed during the 2017 hurricane season.

According to Boon, “Each year, C&W recognizes ‘Mission Day’ as a special day of giving, volunteerism and simply doing good in direct response to the needs of the communities we serve, connecting with the people and transforming their lives in real and tangible ways, creating magical moments of care.”
