Carlisle Bay Resort Faces Halt in Expansion as DCA Issues ‘Stop-Work’ Order

9

The Development Control Authority (DCA) has taken decisive action against the owners of the Carlisle Bay resort, issuing a ‘stop-work’ order that immediately halts excavation activities in the vicinity of their property.

This resort had undertaken a substantial land-clearing project to expand its facilities, but it did so without adhering to the necessary regulatory protocols.

Notably, they failed to notify the relevant authorities or submit an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), contravening the Land and Development Control Regulations. According to Lionel Hurst, Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s Office, the hotel aimed to construct villas on the cleared land.

Hurst emphasized the importance of notifying both the DCA and the Department of the Environment when undertaking extensive vegetation removal, even on private property.

The lack of oversight became evident when the Observer visited the site, accompanied by concerned local residents who raised alarms about potential environmental consequences, especially for the nearby mangrove swamp and Carlisle Bay beach.

Residents fear that the blocked access between the swamp and the bay could harm aquatic species, alter water salinity, and lead to water backlog during heavy rains, affecting nearby homes.

  1. The hotel is very tired and in dire need of renovations but the owners are more concerned about having to close down and sever staff more than upholding the integrity of their so called 5 star resort. 20 years opened and not a proper refurbishment has been done.

Close that shit hole down, bring it up to 5 star standard and stop being cheap.

  2. Stop the damn double talk about facing halt on expansion. Did DCA conveniently had to be told about this before they do something, or did they conveniently did not look in that direction?
Are you all waiting until Ivena’s passion dries up before you start back?

What is happening in that department is SICK, SICK, SICK. That head there seems to have made up his mind that he is not doing anything that goes against the wishes of his puppet master. See no broken law, smell no broken law, pretend there’s no broken law.

History will deal with you, Barse, in a special way. None of your kith and kin will be proud to know you, you weak piece of moose turd.

  3. When ALP is ousted, an investigation must be done into DCA. Fences are being erected on our beaches, there is a monstrosity blighting Long Bay that the idiot PM said would have to moved; its still there. DCA is compromised and taking orders from the top, instead of doing their damn jobs and following the law. Whoever you are in charge, your day to face the courts will come. That’s the problem in this country. Way too many civil servants are greedy, compromised and dumb as hell. I am sure no politician signature is anywhere on any document.

  4. In the State in which I am living. You cannot cut down and or remove mangroves, without permission. If you are caught removing mangroves without permission. You could be sent to jail for 3 months minimum. How the heck could those people at that not a 5 star resort could get away with this?

    • LOL!!!! They clearing land to build villas but not closing down the outdated run down hotel to do a proper refurb and when certain persons who hold high positions were asked why, it was because they would have to lay off staff and it would be too much money to pay out. 🤷🏾‍♂️

  5. so these owners rather spend money to expand than close down the entire operation to do a full and proper refurbishment.
