The following Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) – Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago; Foreign Ministers of Grenada and Suriname;, meeting by video-conference on 24 January 2019, issued the following statement.
“Heads of Government are following closely the current unsatisfactory situation in Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, a neighbouring Caribbean country. They expressed grave concern about the plight of the people of Venezuela and the increasing volatility of the situation brought about by recent developments which could lead to further violence, confrontation, breakdown of law and order and greater suffering for the people of the country.
Heads of Government reaffirmed their guiding principles of non-interference and non-intervention in the affairs of states, respect for sovereignty, adherence to the rule of law, and respect for human rights and democracy.
Heads of Government reiterated that the long-standing political crisis, which has been exacerbated by recent events, can only be resolved peacefully through meaningful dialogue and diplomacy.
In this regard, Heads of Government offered their good offices to facilitate dialogue among all parties to resolve the deepening crisis.
Reaffirming their commitment to the tenets of Article 2 (4) of the United Nations Charter which calls for Members States to refrain from the threat or the use of force and Article 21 of the Charter of the Organization of American States which refers to territorial inviolability, the Heads of Government emphasized the importance of the Caribbean remaining a Zone of Peace.
Heads of Government called on external forces to refrain from doing anything to destabilize the situation and underscored the need to step back from the brink and called on all actors, internal and external, to avoid actions which would escalate an already explosive situation to the detriment of the people of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and which could have far-reaching negative consequences for the wider region.
Heads of Government agreed that the Chairman of Conference, Dr the Honourable Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis would seek an urgent meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General to request the U.N’s assistance in resolving the issue.”

A COWARDLY STATEMENT WHERE THE HIGHEST CARIBBEAN LEADERS ARE SHOWING THEIR REAL COTTON….(Rastaman)
1 That official statement is neither on the bank nor in the river.
2 It gives absolutely no direction to the Caribbean people.
3 Venezuela is in South America not the Caribbean. See how confused these leaders are.
4. No defined position for or against the sitting president.
5 No out reach of gratitude to aid the suffering in Venezuela.
6 No direct call for the US to stop interfereing in the affairs of a SOVERIGN country.
7 It is better they took some more time and speak definitively on the matter or not speak collectively but individually.
8. It would be interesting to hear the position of each head of government.
With reference to your point no. 8 I think one can correctly assume that the individual opinions would depend on how much, if at all, the various islands and/or leaders are benefiting from the Venezuelan regime meaning self-serving dictator by force Maduro. Antigua PM seems not to care in the slightest that the Venezuelan people are starving, suffering and dying with reportedly many very young Venezuelan girls being forced to flee and prostitute themselves (many subject to human trafficking) to survive. It would appear that money channeled through WIOC takes precedence over human life…That seems to be the “cotton” showing here!
RECENTLY IN AN ARTICLE PUBLISHED BY ANR THE GOVERNOR GENERAL SIR RODNEY MADE CERTAIN COMMENTS PERTAINING TO THE CUBAN REVOLUTION, THIS RASTAMAN POINTED OUT THAT GIVEN HIS POSITION HE SHOULD NOT HAVE SPOKEN ON THE ISSUE OF THE CUBAN REVOLUTION.(09 Jan 2019)
THAT BACK DROP WHAT IS SIR RODNEY’S POSITION ON THE VENEZUELAN ISSUE? ANR ahould seek out his view
Please see comment on that article by the Rastaman
Hey Heads of Government don’t you think it is time for Heads to roll in Venezuela or you are fearful you wont benefit from the looted resources form Venezuela being loaned and given to you?
“They expressed grave concern about the plight of the people of Venezuela”…. But no shame or great concern in accepting millions of the peoples money when it was blatantly obvious they were suffering for years?. All those heads of governments should take 90% of the blame for what is happening to the people in Venezuela as you all facilitated the end result. Can you imagine a country so wealthy and the people are looking in garbage bins for something to eat?????. Women children and disabled people fleeing their country due to the very real prospect of starvation and death through violence?. Maybe this situation is the catalyst that is needed to rid the region of corruption and its byproducts?.
So Baldwin Spencer NEVER should have made that eleventh hour call to Chavez to beg for de likkle $50M??
At the end of the day it is corruption that will be the finish of them.
The U.S. and the EU are a jokers. It is time for Antigua to withdrawn from these weird organizations like CARICOM and just build a reputation as a neutral country in these disputes. Antigua should be the Switzerland of our region, we should just focus on making money and being peaceful with all.
UPDATE
The Brits are supporting the Venezuelan opposition so who is the GOVERNOR GENERAL of 268 supporting?
It was strange that he complimented the Cubans when the Brits was in bed with the US.
These are things journalist should pounce on Similarly to how THEY POUNCED ON THE ROYALTIES FOR DRIVING WITHOUT SEAT BELTS. Huge scandal in the UK at present.
