Cabinet to decide if July 4 is a public holiday

9

The Cabinet will discuss the proposal to make CARICOM Day a public holiday in Antigua and Barbuda during their meeting.

CARICOM member states have been urged to consider July 4th as a holiday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the regional integration movement.

St Kitts and Nevis and Grenada have already declared it a public holiday.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has reservations about the request due to the abundance of existing public holidays and concerns about productivity.

He will bring the matter for further discussion but is not optimistic about adding another holiday.

Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, shares similar reservations.
