Caribbean Union Bank (CUB) and the St. John’s Development Corporation (SJDC) proudly hosted “Island Lights,” a vibrant Christmas celebration held at Heroes Park in St. John’s.

The event, designed to bring the authentic Antiguan festive spirit to life, transformed the park into a hub of energy and joy, spreading Christmas cheer to hundreds of attendees. It was a shining example of SJDC’s mission to transform St. John’s into a thriving and attractive hub for residents and visitors alike, while also reflecting CUB’s core values of community engagement and charitable giving.

Hosted by the energetic Ibis the Livest, the evening featured a variety of highlights. Legendary calypsonian King Obstinate, a long-time CUB customer, was honored for his contributions to Antiguan Christmas music.

CUB’s General Manager, Mrs. Karen Richardson, presented him with a commemorative plaque, and he delighted the audience with performances of beloved classics such as “Police Teef Me Hag” and “How Will Santa Get Here?”

The night also showcased amazing local talent, including a solo by CUB staff member Colin Ainsworth, creative dance routines by Shiva’s School of Dance, performances by the Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra, and lively pan notes from the Hellsgate Steel Orchestra. Rising star Enoch Lewis captivated the crowd with his soulful singing.

A standout moment was the lighting of a magnificent 16-foot Christmas tree.

Adding a charitable touch to the festivities, CUB and SJDC made a special donation to the Social Protection Board to support children in need. Both Mrs. Richardson and SJDC City Manager, Mrs. Carolyn Parker, addressed the audience, highlighting the importance of community and togetherness during the holiday season.

Heroes Park, a hidden gem in St. John’s, came alive as the perfect setting for this cheerful event, leaving attendees with pleasant memories and a renewed sense of community spirit. Caribbean Union Bank and St. John’s Development Corporation remains dedicated to creating moments that bring people together and celebrate the unique culture and traditions of Antigua and Barbuda.
