Antigua PM eyes seamless shift as LIAT 1974 hands over to LIAT 2020

Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, expressed openness to investing in the new LIAT 2020 or any Caribbean airline but stressed that private entities, not governments, should manage it.

He advocated for strategic planning, professional management, and private sector involvement to ensure efficiency. Skerrit’s remarks followed LIAT (1974) Limited’s announcement of permanently ceasing operations on January 24, 2024.

Despite public criticism, Skerrit reaffirmed Dominica’s willingness to invest in regional airlines, highlighting the Caribbean’s growth dependence on interregional travel.

LIAT (1974) Ltd, under administration since July 2020, plans to cease operations, affecting over 90 employees. Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua & Barbuda aims to restructure LIAT with the Caribbean Development Bank’s involvement and finalize an arrangement with Air Peace, a private Nigerian airline.

Air Peace plans to acquire a controlling stake in LIAT 2020, emphasizing creating a robust airline for Eastern Caribbean connectivity and safe transport of passengers and cargo.

  1. Skerrit is almost beginning to give me a reason to agree with him…that an airline should be run by private sector interest.

  2. Cleaveland Seaforth practicing creative self-enrichment. He took a page out of the PM’s book.

What will Skerritt do when Mehul Choksi Air comes for him? He will reach out to his high spar Gaston to accompany him.

  3. The big question is; when would flights be available for booking? So much talking yet no information as to when flights would be available -_-

    • #Dore After all this you would still go booking a flight you would have 2b the biggest idiot alive.
