THE ECONOMIC TIMES: A latest groundbreaking study conducted in the United States claims that Cannabis can be the key to Covid prevention, as the plant contains compounds that can stop the virus from entering human cells.

According to the research – conducted by Richard van Breemen and a team of scientists from Oregon State University – compounds commonly found in hemp (Cannabis), called cannabigerolic acid, can bind to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in such a way that it block an essential step in the process by which the virus infects humans. The study was published in the peer-reviewed journal called the ‘Journal of Natural Products’.

Ever since the study surfaced, a common question that has been doing rounds is whether smoking up marijuana (another common name for cannabis) would help in keeping Covid-19 away and the answer to that is a flat out ‘No’.

In an interview with Vice, Breemen explained why smoking pot may not be your answer to Covid blues, despite the fact that cannabis sativa, as it is scientifically known, can help in Covid prevention.
