On Thursday, May 13, the Hon. Michael Chong, Conservative Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a phone call with H.E. Sir Ronald Sanders, High Commissioner of Antigua and Barbuda to Canada about Canada-Antigua and Barbuda relations.
MP Chong highlighted several items with the High Commissioner, including:
- Canada’s close relationship with Antigua and Barbuda and other countries of the Caribbean, in particular the shared parliamentary systems and historical ties through the Commonwealth;
- Conservatives’ belief in further developing closer diplomatic, trade and investment ties with Antigua and Barbuda; and,
- Conservatives’ belief in working with the democracies of the Caribbean on advancing democracy, human rights and the rule of law in multilateral fora.
H.E. Sir Ronald Sanders and MP Chong discussed the difficult economic situation of the countries of the Caribbean, the need to secure vaccines to re-open tourism, extreme weather events and climate change, students from Antigua and Barbuda studying at Canadian post-secondary institutions and China.
They agreed to keep in touch and to continue the dialogue on Canada-Antigua and Barbuda relations.

If Canada would like more influence here they should build a permanent Embassy here to rival that of China, so there might be a moral level playing field. Most Antiguans would likely welcome a Canadian embassy here.
It does not mean anything they’re talking because we will never get back the free visa access to Canada 🇨🇦.
The Canadian government will never bring an embassy in Antigua, never. Any other embassy we will be getting other than China 🇨🇳, it would be either Russian, Iraq 🇮🇶, Iran 🇮🇷, Germany 🇩🇪.
You sound like a ja-ck-ass
I do not support Sungu nor Lungu, but if it is one reason I want to see this government change is so that we would no longer have to have this impostor represent Antigua and Barbuda anymore and I do not have to watch his house lizard face anymore behind our name on his desk.
This man advised the Lester Bird administration to FIRE ANTIGUANS AND HIRE NON-NATIONALS to make sure that he wins the elections. I understand that he also advised him what to do with Papa, Lester’s own father.
Just looking at him disgust me. Only Antigua, only ALP, can have this man, Ronald Singh, calling himself Ronald Sanders, represent us. A man who was not born in Antigua and not living in Antigua representing Antigua and Barbuda internationally. What could go so? Guyana has two representatives at the UN. Ours and theirs.
I’ve often wondered who is Sanderd (Singh?) gentleman really is, and why does he have so much power. I never see him in this place. Does he have a home in Antigua? Where?
Somebody tell me something about him and his background. Why don’t we see him here in Antigua amongst the common people???
