Europe is one of the most popular destinations in the world with tons to offer. From the luxurious city escapes to dreamy beach destinations, Europe has everything. Roughly 538 million tourists hop on a plane and travel to Europe, including millions from Antigua and Barbuda. Although it’s one of the most popular vacation spots in the world, there are various things to consider – such as whether an Antigua and Barbuda passport can get you into Europe.
Do you have the serenity of Sicily in your sights? Or perhaps the history and culture of Rome? Read on to learn whether an Antigua and Barbudan passport is enough to get you into Europe.
A Passport Alone Will Soon Not Be Enough
Currently, a passport alone will be enough for residents of Antigua and Barbuda to enter Europe. As long as the passport is in date and valid, residents can book a flight to Europe without filling out an ETIAS for Antigua and Barbudan citizens. ETIAS stands for European Travel Information and Authorisation System – a system that will be similar to that of the ESTA most people need to travel to the US.
Fear not – it comes into play at the end of 2022, so any vacations booked before this will not need to fill out an application form. When the system goes live, anyone with a passport that isn’t a resident of an EU country will have to complete a short online form. Once reviewed and accepted, the ETIAS will grant people 90 days of travel within Europe on a short-stay visa.
What Residents Of Antigua and Barbuda Now Need To Do
The first thing people from Antigua and Barbuda need to do is ensure their passport is up to date. An Antigua and Barbuda passport is valid for five years, which is shorter than other countries allow theirs to be valid and can catch some vacationers out. It’s also mandatory that the passport is six months within date – another requirement that can catch travelers off guard.
Check that your passport is in date by looking at the expiry date and take at least six months away from that. Citizens of Antigua and Barbuda are entitled to a passport, thanks to the Immigration and Passport Act, 2014. The passport office distributes new documents that require proof of citizenship before being awarded.
Always check the individual entry requirements of any European country before booking a vacation.
