The Calvin Ayre Foundation, a charity organization spearheaded by billionaire businessman Calvin Ayre, has purchased four million dollars’ worth of personal protective equipment (PPE) including N95 face masks, surgical gowns and thermometers for Antigua.

“As Antigua and Barbuda and many other small island developing states struggle to protect their citizenry from this highly contagious and deadly coronavirus, it is becoming painfully obvious that we cannot look to the traditional donors and trading partners for assistance in providing urgently needed PPEs,” said Ayre.

The supplies were sourced from China as the United States had place a restriction  on the exporting of masks and protective gears.

“Thankfully, we were able to procure the desperately needed protective equipment from China for our frontline workers in Antigua and Barbuda,” Ayre explained.

“We are truly happy to be in a position to assist the Calvin Ayre government and citizens of Antigua and Barbuda, and especially the brave people on the frontline,” Ayre added.

The shipment also includes disposable gloves and full- length shields to help keep local medics safe.

Plans are in place to officially hand over the donation to the Ministry of Health officials later this week.

  1. From where??? Ah bare madness a run in Antigua!!! he’s pretty much helping the Chinese eliminate black people with which could most likely be defective ppe. Why not donate the 4mil to the poor people of the country in small amounts maybe 500$ per person or however it can work out to be and make a payment plan for them to pay back after this pandemic is over.

  2. Hearing such news sounds like sweet music to my ears….Thank God for another cooperate citizen who has come to the rescue…… This has perhaps created some relief to our frontline workers… Much respect to you, Mr. Calvin Ayre!!

When they are presented with evidence that works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be accepted. It would create a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance. “Concerns about a dwindling supply of PPE are not new. Back on February 7, the World Health Organization sounded alarm bells about “the limited stock of PPE,” noting demand was 100 times higher than normal for this equipment. Yet the same day as the WHO warning, the Trump administration announced that it was transporting to China nearly 17.8 tons (more than 35,000 pounds) of “masks, gowns, gauze, respirators, and other vital materials.” As Secretary of State Mike Pompeo noted in the press release announcing this shipment, “These donations are a testament to the generosity of the American people.” – Dean Obeidallah:Trump administration sent protective medical gear to China while he minimized the virus threat to US! https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/29/opinions/coronavirus-personal-protective-equipment-obeidallah/index.html

“Two airplanes that returned to Canada from China minus a cargo of badly needed medical supplies were not the first jets to come back empty from the Asian country since the start of the Covid-19 crisis — and they are unlikely to be the last. // Canada also isn’t alone. Six countries saw planes forced to take off from China at the start of this week without their freight of personal protective equipment, a senior Canadian official tells POLITICO. // The world is converging on China to scoop up medical supplies, including gloves, gowns, masks and ventilators, in an intense global competition that’s creating chaos on the ground. //“It is a Wild West right now,” Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said Wednesday of the fierce competition to buy PPE in China and the battle to get it out of the country.” – ANDY BLATCHFORD, Melee for Chinese PPE will produce more empty planes. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/22/competition-chinese-ppe-empty-planes-201668!

An Afrocentrist seeks to understand the principles of the Afrocentric method in order to use them as a guide in analysis and discourse. 3. We have not learn from our past Stanford was the new GOD for Antiguans. The Stanford experience was very damaging to our country. Now comes Bodog and his generosity, Antiguans & Barbudans have not learn that nothing in this world is for free, a few months ago the vendors at bodog beach had a showdown with this same white knight bearing gifts. Oh how short our memories are, but I am not suprise because we have a leader who say colonize us just bring the gifts and come. I will watch this new master get his showers of blessing from the slaves.

    • So, are you saying the Ministry of Health should refuse the protective equipment? Clearly, you do not work in the hospital or on the front line dealing with Covid patients everyday. I think, if you did work on the front line, you would be begging for the donated equipment. Selfish person, you are. You need to learn to think of others first.

    • Dear Mr Knight in Shining Armour I am wondering if you have a soul inside of that shiny armour. I am wondering if the armour is so shiny and heavy that you cannot see what is happening all over the world? This is a worldwide health crisis where all countries big and small are scrambling to get PPEs. The USA is holding on to all PPEs ventilators ect and is hsve a Federal Government vs State Government war bidding over these very same PPEs. Why don’t you remove the politics from your brain for half and be thankful we are getting some form of assistance.

      • You can’t expect even a modicum of PATRIOTISM from Missa Knight. He already publicly declared on radio that an Antigua and Barbuda passport means nothing to him because he pledged his allegiance to Trump.

      • Sorry, but he’s proving over and over again that he (Mr. Knight) ain’t no Knight and his Armour is plastic. The politicians should just get outta here. We’re dealing now with matters of life and death. Thank you, Mr. Ayers, for your help. It’s much appreciated.

  4. The people choose barabas over Jesus. I don’t expect any better from slaves. When the vendors at bodog beach was standing up for their right you minions had nothing to say. Don’t shoot the messenger, it’s the way you sold your soul to Stanford. Amen

    • You are a real sad soul with politics shoved so far up your behind you cant see beyond red and blue. Why don’t you go back to Trump. You down throw away your Antiguan passport for a US passport.

  5. Thanks Mr. Eyre for your generous gift. I do have a concern though with these PPE coming from China. A few weeks ago some EU countries returned PPE to China because they were defective and tested Positive for Covid 19. Hope some of these equipment are not on their way to Antigua. Will the government check the equipment for the corona virus and ensure they are not defective. Appreciate the gifts but wished China was not the source country as we know how some Chinese view black people. Think of the treatment being afforded Black people in China.

    • And who should we get them from being that they are scarce and the USA holding on to all of them. They have even huffed several countries to include their own neighbour Canada.

  6. It’s all about the dollar.

Our own government can’t even help it’s citizen after 4 weeks of a crisis. That should be a cause for concern.

But we Antiguans love it so

  7. The gift is wonderful however the quality of the goods received needs to be carefully checked as there are many false certificates being presented by the Chinese as bona fide which are no such thing and this is one of the reasons why many items have been returned as not safe to use. Also there have been refusals of Chinese COVID-19 PPE into countries because they have contained the virus. Let us all hope that we have the correct testing measures in place to check that this generous gift does not become a Trojan Horse.

  8. Hi, Jamilla Kirwan here. I am the Media Representative for the Calvin Ayre Foundation (CAF) in Antigua. We purchased the PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) from China, since this is the only place in the world that anyone can get these protective gears in the current environment. These PPEs are used successfully globally to keep front line workers such as nurses and doctors safe from infection for all types of contagion. With a pandemic under way there was a critical need to keep the medical system in Antigua from being overrun and to keep our health workers safe. Our Foundation is also working with both political parties to ensure there is food for the needy in this crisis and we call on all others who can, to join us in this endeavour.

  9. Thank you Miss Kirwan for clarifing this and thank you for the donation. Unfortunatly as demostrated on this blog nothing will please these keyboard gangsters. They will find something else to comlkain about.

  10. Now is not the time for racial hatred and vendettas. Like everywhere else there are good and evil people, not every Asian is evil and discriminating again Black People. Dont look a gift horse in the mouth.
