The Ministry of Tourism and Investment is pleased to announce a call for entries to win EC$1300 by designing a poster for the Lionfish Derby Schools Art Competition.

This competition is open to students in Antigua and Barbuda, age 5 to 18 and the objective is to raise awareness within schools about the non-native Indo-Pacific lionfish and the far-reaching effects they have on our marine environment.

Students are invited to design a poster no smaller than 11″x 11″ and no larger than 18″x18″ using pencil-crayons, markers, water colours or airbrush.

Only one entry per student is permitted and artwork must depict the beauty of the lionfish, the effects it has on marine life, and how their numbers can be controlled. The tagline “Eat them to beat them” must be included in the art-piece.

At the back of each entry, students must include “Antigua Barbuda Lionfish Derby Schools Art Competition”, along with their name, age, school, contact information and the artist signature (if any).

All artworks must be submitted to the Ministry of Tourism and Investment, Government Offices Complex, Queen Elizabeth Highway; no later than 2:30 pm on Friday November 11, 2022.

A panel of judges will review, all entries and the winner will receive EC$1300, second place EC$650 and third place EC$390.

All entries will be displayed at the first ever Antigua and Barbuda Lionfish Derby on Sunday November 20, 2022.

Beauty And da Beast of nature’s flora and fauna,
The Lion Fish…I had no idea you’re this evil creature about to take over our shallow waters and reefs.
It’s great, that they’re getting professional help, involving the children and creating a business from it.

    Go Lion!
