Cabinet Warns Barbuda Council About Leasing Lands

(World Fact Book)

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has issued a warning to residents about leasing lands belonging to the state.

It had a special warning for members of the Barbuda Council “that a lease of any Crown land is lawful only if the lease is approved by the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda.”

It is not certain what prompted this warning but the matter was discussed in Cabinet on Wednesday.

The council is controlled by the Barbuda Peoples Movement which opposes the central government’s development plan for the island.

“Any person who leases land from the Barbuda Council is reminded that without the approval of Cabinet the lease is not lawful,” a brief Cabinet statement said.

    • There is no provision in law for the Council to approve any lease. Central government does NOT report to the Council; it works the other way around. ALL Crown lands in Antigua and Barbuda by law fall under the authority of the Central Government, and not under the authority of any island or parish council. We are a unitary state, not a federation, and the laws in Antigua are the laws in Barbuda, and the laws in Redonda and any other offshore island that belongs to Antigua.

  1. So to get lease land on Barbuda Cabinet must approve, and to build an airport on Barbuda the Council must approve. Now I’m confused.

  2. 😂😂😂 it’s a circus… I get tired of hearing so much happening and nothing is being done. Sad freaking state that place is in and it’s the people that will be left at a loss and the government and council cost

  3. So all those that the Cabinet wants to approve are those who can and will line their oily pockets and gift them Rolex?.
How about the “cabinet” give a full and detailed account of ALL the money it’s hidden from The Barbuda Hurricane Irma Fund? ..I heard whispers on the grapevine the figures exceeded $2 billion dollars????.

    • “cabinet” will not give account for ANY money / materials received for Barbuda because it has already gone into their “oily not yet full pockets”

  4. Its is true the money is hidden, when everyone forget, then it belongs to 1 man , head of state.
