The Cabinet determined that air conditioners imported by homeowners, or for sale to homeowners, will have the Import Duty waived, during the very hot months of July, August, and September 2024.

The RRC and the ABST will continue to apply, the Cabinet decided.

  1. Better late then never. First compete with the local free market and then knee jerk decision to allow everyone duty feee. About 20 percent duty ? So better late then never but would been good to get the free market involved who would have been brining in container months ahead of time who are now have paid dituies and simply cannot reduce off what they have paid …

  2. Maybe the people here who buy it in bulk and save, as well as pay the port/customs workers a little something something under the table can also us some slack. If I can buy a unit online for USD, why am I paying XCD 3000 -4,000 PLUS installation. Duties waived still has to come from somewhere so if I still have to pay for it in the long run I may as well import it and not continue to make someone here richer.

    Online here I come….

  3. I suppose they’re making 100 times the amount of any duty free concessions from the increased fuel surcharge. Their pals who own the businesses will be benefiting since only a small minority of households bring those in for themselves. Why not?
