Cabinet Unveils Ambitious Road Repair Plan to Tackle Potholes and Drainage Issues Across Antigua

4

CABINET NOTES: The Cabinet invited a six-person delegation from the Ministry of Works, led by its Director and Permanent Secretary, who provided Cabinet with their plan for fixing the roads throughout the country especially in the many communities where age and rains have created many potholes.

They provided a strategic plan to repair the roads and drains beginning in nine separate neighborhoods. The contractors will lay 100 feet by 18 feet of concrete surfaces daily until all community roads are complete.

Pre-formed drains and sidewalks will be added at the sides to lengthen the life of the roads.

Cabinet was informed that many households have failed to include soakways on their property to take run off from cesspits; as a consequence, overflow from cesspits run into the streets and gutters undermining the surface and the longevity of many roads.

A night crew will also be at work from 6pm to 2am daily except on weekends.

The Ministry of Works will have to employ approximately 40 new workers, purchase new trucks, backhoes, earth movers, and become a large producer of concrete for the new concrete-road-roll-out slabs that are intended to last more than 20 years.

  1. “Cabinet unveils ambitious road repairs…”

What the heck have they been doing then in their last two terms in office (and don’t forget the 40-odd-years under the Birdism and Browneism regime)?

Those of us who drive regularly on the roads of Antigua, have had the misfortune of constantly “zig-zagging” to get to our destinations. Dangerous.

When Gaston Browne first came into political prominence, he had a great opportunity to become a butterfly, 🦋 but instead he’s turned into some sort of giant snail 🐌 leaving a slimey trail of infrastructure and economic woes plaguing this great country of ours to this very day.

REMEMBER, ACTION SPEAKS VOLUMES … WORDS DO NOT!

  2. There are pot holes. Then, there are potholes the sizes of swimming pools like the picture above. While driving your car would dived down into them and has to be resuscitated.
