Cabinet To Meet With Medical Council Over Dr Jose Humphreys

A meeting was said to have been hastily arranged for a meeting by the Gaston Browne Cabinet and the 7-member Medical Council today, Wednesday 25, 2019.

Reliable sources inform that the meeting was called to look at a possible way in resolving the Dr. Humphrey debacle.

The membership remains tight-lipped over the Dr. Jose Humphrey recent de-registration as a medical practitioner within the nation.

The embattled medical practitioner until recently de-registered had a licensed private medical practice.

However, the Medical Council reportedly guided by the provisions of the Medical Practitioners Act and professional ethics, removed his name from the Gazetted list of licensed medical practitioners.

In a letter purportedly written by then Council Chairperson, Dr. Leslie Walwyn, the aggrieved Doctor was reportedly requested to provide certain documentation, that when so provided were reported to be at variance with documents on administrative files.

When news broke of the action initiated against him by the Medical Council, a dismayed and irate public expressed full support to the Doctor whom they say has shown  proficient skills and competence in healthcare delivery services.

The Gaston Browne administration had also urged that the matter be amicably resolved.

The situation appeared to have been turned for the worst, when he instituted civil proceedings against the governing body for refusing to register him and to issue the related licence to conduct a private medical practice.

In those proceedings both the High Court of Justice and the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal (ECSC) ruled against him.

The medical Council remains adamant that Doctor Humphrey owes a duty to himself to provide the requested documents that the Council could properly process his application.

It also hopes to have a fruitful meeting wit members of Cabinet, including Health Minister Molwyn Joseph who was reported to have been urging that commonsense must prevail and a common approach taken in bringing closure to the matter.

  1. When did Dr. Vonetta George-Nanton become the CHAIRPERSON of the Council? Is it that Dr. Walwyn’s tenure came to an end or he chose to resign as Chairperson?

Anyhoo, I really hope that this situation gets resolved in a fair and just manner.

  2. Dr George seems young, anxious and makes too many haste decision . If she continues with such actions she will continue to put this government into a lot more issues and legal proceedings. Mount st john needs some attention focus on that doc.

  3. It was the same dr George who stated the High Court that Dr. Humphreys cared for her sick father for over a year and did not charge one cent. Boy ingratitude worse that witchcraft.
