“Cabinet to Form Criminal Justice Board with Stakeholder Consultation to Address Crime Legislation”

The Cabinet has agreed to engage in consultation with stakeholders who have a particular interest in deterring crime.

Those stakeholders will include Judges and Magistrates dealing with criminal law, the Police, the Prime Minister and the Attorney General, the Bar Association, the Church, the Business Community, the DPP, a representative from the private sector organizations and from the NGOs.

One of their primary tasks will be to establish a Criminal Justice Board whose primary function will be to review draft legislation pertaining to crime that will go before the Parliament; bills will, thereafter, reflect broad-based input rather than the informed thinking of the members of the Upper and Lower Houses of Parliament only.

  1. Where on earth is the experts in the field with the advance knowledge in the area?

Why on this earth do you not listen to me precisely? This board should include victimologist, Criminologist, psychologist, police science expert, sociologist, national security experts, experts in statistics, calculus etcetera,

I do not mind those people mentioned above to be included but the board cannot be without experts with an advanced degree of knowledge and exceptional ability in the field related fields.

  2. The primary function of the Board will be “to review draft legislation pertaining to crime that will go before the Parliament” how will those experts you listed assist in that regard? Seriously asking.

In particular I do not see how psychologists, sociologists, and experts experts in statistics, calculus etc will help.

  3. You do not see how an expert in behavior and society is useful in helping to create laws that encourage good BEHAVIOR?

YOU do not how an expert in statistics and calculus is relevant in predicting behaviors and future acts that may be legislated before they become a problem or worse problem?

If you need me to explain this to you, nothing I say will be able to make sense to you, if you seriously do not understand the importance of having experts in society, behavior, deviant and criminal behavior being part of drafting of laws that governs the same kind of conduct/behavior in a society.

The question is a perfect example of Antigua’s government. I am laughing while writing this because the government will ask the same thing, how does an expert in their field is useful in their field. Truly Antigua ha ha ha ha ha. That place is different.
    If

  4. Those experts will be more suited to creating social programs, strengthening the relevant institutions (like social services, the prison etc) and building out policy, not necessarily drafting legislation which is a more technical skill. No need for the obnoxious attitude.

    Blessings.

  5. @Serious Question
Psychologist studies mind and thinking (behaviour). Laws should be drafted in ways it will most positively affects thinking/behavior.

Criminologist studies crimes, criminals, deviants, victims, why on earth would those people not be involve in helping you understand what should be in the law to best serve society pertaining to crimes, criminals and victims?

Sociologist studies society, why you a person with substantial knowledge of the society that the law is made to government not be a part of a group making laws for the society?

Experts in statistics and calculus why would a clear picture of what has happened (statistics) and what may happen (calculus and statistics) not be a part of giving a better and more complete view of what the law will need to do to stop the previous kind of crimes and to prevent future types of crimes or advancement of certain types of crimes?

Again, it is experts in their areas that are better suited to help drafting of laws, making recommendation, helping laws to be effective and better equipping those who enforce the laws (executive branch, police, military, etcetera).

Again, I am calling for there to be an Intellgience and National Security Unit for the country, INSU. Where people with advanced degree of knowledge and exceptional ability in related fields are part of this unit.

  6. @ Serious Question, if you are a new blogger and sincerely asking, I apologize for the manner in which I responded. But there are no better persons for helping in drafting laws than those persons that are experts in understanding society, that have done intense research in society that includes victims, crimes, behaviors, the wants and needs of society, the harms society is suffering and may suffer.

You literally needs these experts for the diagnosis and the solution/medicine. Laws are for medicine to stop crimes or deter crimes from happening.

The medicine must be adequate and proportionate, the experts are the best in determining that. Those names I listed understand society and behavior, how to impact behavior. So you will need them in all parts of the process of affecting behavior. From helping to draft laws, to enforcement, that is why they study society and behavior.

Why would an expert who understand how criminals think be used after laws are made and not in helping to draft the laws in a manner that positively impacts the mind of criminals and potential/previous victims?
