Drains will also be constructed to ensure that water does not settle on the roads, since accumulated pockets of water can lead to erosion of the surfaces of the roads.

The Cabinet urges drivers to exercise great care in order to diminish the likelihood of accidents, and harm to passengers and other drivers.

It was reported that the newly-built fence on the Factory Road, demarcating the northern border of the intended new Tomlinson’s Cemetery, was partially destroyed by a speeding driver whose car crashed through the steel and broke apart the cement foundation.

  1. Antigua cabinet says dis
    And the cabinet says dat
    Oh my!!
    What a cartoon government!
    Smh🤣🤣🤣

  2. When it rains in Antigua and Barbuda it literally pours. Our drains turns into rivers and our roads into open fields where mattresses, tables, chairs , trees and even cars can be seen floating down and about. Until we deal with the reasons for the huge amount of water and other obstacles that floats across the road surfaces when it rains, we would continue to have these issues with badly dilapidated roads after major storms and downpours. Secondly, we are not getting value for money with our current mode of road construction. Antigua is already flat and road construction must take that into consideration. You cannot build roads in an already flat area without considerable raising the surface and putting in proper draining which allows for proper runoff from the road surface. This is fundermental and basic. Government seem to have unlimited amount of resources to spend on roads that cannot stand up to one heavy downpour. It really says much about the workmanship and the quality of materials used. We have to begin to expect more and demand more from the engineers in charge of our road construction and maintenance. We must demand more as tax payers . It is our money that is floating down the drains whenever it pours. Compared to some larger countries even in our Caribbean space; we have fewer roads to contend with but our job in taking care of them have been less than satisfactory.

  3. Yes, but didn’t the recent rains highlight the cheap and inferior materials used by those in charge of procurement.

And this government hides behind the excuse of inclement weather.

Imbeciles and simpletons the lot of them…

  4. Have we gotten valve for money? We heard a squabble between Bahama Hot Mix and the then Junior Minister of Works about road quality, time-line and payments and that confrontation only confirmed what we already knew; they were all scamming us but something really got out of hand and somebody wasn’t getting his fair portion of the loot. The rains are now throwing back the lid to expose their corruption and this is just the beginning of the hurricane season. Look out for more theft; remember it’s road ‘CONSTRUCTION’.

  5. Well said @Rovi and @Brixtonian! These clowns running our country are so arrogant they think themselves infallible. The rain affected the “smooth as a baby’s bottom, ” roads; delayed the completion of the Boys Training School, the excuse for a cemetery at Tomilsons and a run of excuses as long as a track. Any idiot would see that the drainage is the problem with the roadways, but hey,it’s Pixie, the biggest ghost worker in Antigua and Barbuda’s history, we can expect nothing more.
There’s an excuse for the Ebooks, one for the Harrison Center, the Barbuda relief funds, the Alpha Nargo, the mold in every government building, the rise in crime, the list is long. So to are the failures of this waste of a government.
