2

The Cabinet held a discussion on the readiness of the Barbuda International Airport to begin accepting flights.

Permission is to be granted by the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) which the Cabinet understands will be issued in about two weeks.

The project cost more than USD14 million and has a runway length of 6,100 feet; the Cabinet agreed to add 2,000 additional feet in order to accommodate certain jet aircraft.

  1. Did they not declare two weeks ago that the runway was to be expanded 1000 feet. Now it’s 2000 feet. Every week there is a new update, just like the beginning of flights by LIAT 2020. Are mare lands on Barbuda to be destroyed. Has an environmental impact assessment been done to ensure that no damage to mangrove or other protective landscapes are destroyed. What about the Fallow Deer population. Is the perimeter of the airport going to be fenced so that they do not intrude on the runway thereby causing delays and possibly accidents.
    Just asking.

  2. “The Cabinet has agreed to this extension”- from Observer. Whose airport is this anyway? Who is deciding on what is or should be happening there? We know it’s not Barbuda and if it’s something that I put to Cabinet for them to agree on, it doesn’t seem like the govt either.
