Cabinet Proposes Extended School Days to Make Up for Strike Disruptions

The Cabinet has announced plans to compensate public school students for lost learning time following the recent teachers’ strike.

For over a week, teachers withheld instruction in protest over unpaid allowances owed to a small group of educators—primarily at the secondary level. However, officials say the strike had a broader impact, especially on primary school pupils who missed six days of critical instruction.

Concerned by the disruption, Cabinet is proposing to extend the school day to help students catch up before the end of the term. Officials say the move aims to close the learning gap and reaffirm the value of consistent teaching.

  1. The government seems to be looking an all.out war with the Teachers Union.
Industrial action is a lartnif the business or school day.
It was brought about by the actions or lack there of of the ministry of education.
Any action to remedy the effects of the Industrial actions is additional duty.
Is the government willing to pay overtime for the extension of the school day or school term?
If no can they force the teachers into this position to do extra duties?
I can see aan all out war not too far away.
Whoever is advising the cabinet better make sure that they are on solid footings.

  2. STOP 🛑 being vindictive. U all are not showing any examples to the youths. Bunch of miserable people. A you think this is a dictatorship??? U all always trying to trample on citizens democratic rights.

  3. Students loss six days of instructions, but the teachers were missing years of payment… The disrespect to teachers is becoming rather clear. I warned my child not to get into this field, they care so much for the children but dont want to care for rhe ones who are actually in touch with these children.

  4. Should we start to advise online tutoring for our children seems since all on both sides of the coins seems not to care at some point …..I believe AI will soon offer a great package online….we will scrap the Edvy, school uniforms, school bags, etc could put all that money to university…..hmmmm
    Change people…..

  5. Even this solution will mean the children have to pay for this again. They are now forced to go to school when they should have been off. If any had other plans, such as after school activity then they have to adjust these activities. I hope the teachers can now see what the effects are of their strike actions. They were very selfish and narrow minded. Especially at a time when students needed them most.

  6. Cabinet you are so very clueless about education in this country. Then again the some of you attended school during the Jurassic days. So when will the learning gap be closed? After revision for the end of year exams or after the end of year exams? By then the students are totally tuned out and zoned out from learning and only want to enjoy their summer. Please make your spiteful and vindictive actions towards the teachers make sense. I think you need to leave well alone, Cabinet!

  7. If you were owed money for YEARS, putting in overtime hours that you’re not being paid for. Providing children with school supplies and even meals with the pittence of a salary that you are given would you like to be considered SELFISH and NARROW MINDED when you demand monies due to you from your employer? It amazes me how some people can easily berate teachers for demanding what’s rightfully theirs. Did you find the firemen who staged a sit-in recently to be selfish and narrow minded as well?

  8. Yes punish the students for the government’s incompetence so that they will rise up against the teachers whenever the teachers try to stand up for their rights. How much time was lost during the c19 deception. How did you make up for that draconians?

  9. IS IT ILLIGAL TO STRIKE NOW? because it sounds like somebody is gonna pay. who will suffer here? is it the teachers or the students? who is DA? people have RIGHTS!

  10. Nah . Don’t legislate that. When they waste time repairing schools and roads , do they make it up. They better extend pay. We have rights as teachers. Waiting here on the next motion in Barbados.
