Antigua Yacht Show

Officials and the developer who proposes to place a floating dock in the Falmouth Harbour were brought together before the Cabinet, to learn of the choices involving the floating dock and to seek approval to utilize the seabed for the floating dock.

The developer explained that the yachting industry in the Falmouth Harbour continues to grow, and the demand for more docking space requires an innovative approach.

He received the approval and then had the authorization suspended, even as the equipment arrived Antigua.

The team agreed on certain specifications that would allow the floating dock to be constructed, and the Cabinet has given its tentative approval until such time as the agreement is reduced to a writing.

  1. Something is very strange here. Who gave permission and then withdrew the permission? Is this the way government works? Or is there a cover up here and the permission is now being sought? If permission was granted , were duty free concessions also issued for the floating docks? Someone needs to answer. This is not a good picture for either local or overseas investors. I wish there was some organisation here that has an investigative arm as the media in Antigua does not seem to have the resources to dig and follow stories.

  2. I know the developer and the back story. Yes there is a story nobody knows going on here. Simply put the surveyor came out and said that there was not enough manoeuvring space if the docks were put in their proposed space so the permit was not granted. All the while the docks had been ordered and landed. I feel it is a case of one very rich man pushing a bad idea and not wanting to take no as an answer.

As we move ever so quietly and stealthily from “entrepreneurial socialism” to “empowerment capitalism” the “encirclement ring” continues apace with some four new huge Marinas and another two floating majestic Hotel docking facilities intent on swamping the unexploited coves!
