CABINET NOTES: The Cabinet was informed of an accident which occurred on Wednesday morning when a very heavy and lengthy piece of cargo fell from a moving truck on whose flatbed the cargo was strapped.
No-one was injured but the Cabinet is aware that those trucks travel the streets of St. John’s on their way to places all over the island.
The Cabinet has asked the Attorney General to consult with the Transport Board and the Royal Police Force (Traffic Department) to set time limits for use of the roadways by trucks pulling heavy loads, and to enforce the speed-limit laws that govern all vehicles, including trucks.
The disregard for speed limits on the nation’s highways frightens many lawful drivers, the Cabinet was told.

I agree with the Cabinet. There has been numerous accidents over the years. For example one such container fell on my grea, great, Aunty alot of years ago. I was very young, but I remembered the accident. One solution, they have to uterlize the road that’s for sure. But the hours of 2am and 5:30 am the latest those heavy duty trucks should be on the road. This would help to eliminate them off the roads during business hours. For the companies that operate these heavy duty equipment, ensure your drivers are sober and do a drug and alcohol test every two weeks. And make sure your driver’s aquire adequate sleep. These are precautions to keep the drivers safe on the road at such hours. This is my two cents on this.
Many more accidents will have to happen in other places and many more will have to die for these idiots to exercise basic common sense in implementing and enforcing safety measures.
Imagine this now for instance, God to be praised it was not someone in the way of that machine…..Praise ye the most high God, our creator, sustainer and redeemer !
Bare quack empty headed wosses dem have in these high positions, they need weeding out and placing people in those positions who are competent for the job given, who is trained and has to experience. Too many young wild young untrained people they have working these heavy duty equipment as well.
Train the youths properly and also guide them accordingly, they need guidance. We have highly skilled young people out there who just needs the necessary training and guidance.
Its as if the brains for the people in charge goes for a walk when they go to work…..shame on you empty head ones, you know yourselves !
What is the government doing about those concrete trucks that continue to spill concrete on the roadways?
They always wait untill somthing happen to enforce something smh
