Browne Seeks LIAT Shareholder Support for Worker Severance Proposal

4

Prime Minister Gaston Browne will meet with Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley this weekend to secure LIAT 1974 shareholder support for severance payments to former workers.

Antigua and Barbuda, along with Dominica, already back the plan. Browne proposes releasing a $12.1 million escrow by lifting the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) lien on LIAT’s planes, facilitating these payments.

He also seeks to reduce the lien’s value to free up $4 million for immediate compensation.

Browne is optimistic that Dominica’s Roosevelt Skerrit and St. Vincent’s Dr. Ralph Gonsalves will support the proposal. The Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union has been silent on this new proposal, and Browne urges their active support.

The CDB stated that LIAT’s shareholders, including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, and St. Vincent, must decide on using the aircraft sale proceeds. Browne had earlier informed the CDB of Antigua and Barbuda’s purchase of LIAT’s planes for $12.1 million to settle re-fleeting loans. The lien has hindered using these funds for severance.

The CDB clarified that decisions on the sale proceeds rest with the shareholders, not the bank, and that they are not involved in LIAT 2020’s operations.

  1. Not one red cent for browne boy that’s not Mia money that’s the people of Barbados money for all the talk that browne boy had for Mia and Barbados let him go find money to pay his people why he don’t ask the Africans he in bed with for money.

  2. Wait! Does this man just come up with these asanine ideas after he runs low on Risperdal? To my knowledge, he purchased the other shares for a dollar, and was bragging about it to. Barbados has paid its LIAT workers in full or at least made an attempt to. Why should they be concerned about Antiguans who sit on their laurels and support this clown, inspite of how he insults them. Long ago, my sympathy for these LIAT workers has waned. Have they EVER done anything to help their cause, but sit absorb the insults?

  3. @ watching. you hit the nail on the head I were asking myself the same question what the hell these over 600 workers been doing all this time most of them probably voted for him in the last election your silence on this injustice will probably cost some of you your peace of mind if it hasn’t already.

  4. Mia give ass clown Browne one red cent of Bajan taxpayers money and Bajans will vote you out. Browne and he repulsive political friends curse you Mia and Bajans not long ago now wants money from Barbados. Not a cent from Bim. Let him beg his billionaire country man Sir Allen Standford(heehaw) or Rowley or the newly rich Ali man in Georgetown.
