Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said his Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) government will leave the country “significantly better” than it was when it took office, pointing to a record of tackling long-standing national challenges.

Speaking on Pointe FM over the weekend, Browne cited major reforms and development programmes that he says have strengthened key institutions and improved economic prospects.

These include the overhaul of the social security scheme, land development initiatives, and investments in public education.

“Our government is addressing the big issues that were kicked down the road by previous administrations,” he said.

“We’ve restructured social security to ensure its long-term viability, we’re building out affordable housing, and we’ve prioritised education infrastructure.”

Browne also defended the government’s approach to land pricing, noting that the state has been buying land at commercial rates, installing infrastructure, and reselling plots to locals at below-market prices to encourage ownership.

He maintained that the ABLP had demonstrated both “courage and competence” in confronting economic and social issues that had long gone unresolved.

“We are doing the heavy lifting now so that future generations inherit a more resilient and empowered country,” he said.

  1. It’s significantly worst from when when I born and I’m gen Z. The policies of this man is not going to make it better literally everything is crumbling and they are selling literally everything they can to foreign investors letting public sector die and workers unpaid.

“Our government is addressing the big issues that were kicked down the road by previous administrations,”. The previous administration is ALP they been in charge for the last 2 terms and this is the 3rd stop talking like this is the first year in office. I swear this guy can be given 30 years and still be like “The previous administration let crime rise through Antigua and cuss the teachers and them, now it’s our turn to fix it”

  2. I will and my ministers leave Antigua with our bank accounts significantly better, stash with cash even abroad.
