Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he is contemplating reducing social gatherings to 10 and to take more “draconian actions”, which will further curtail personal freedoms.
Browne expressed his disappointment via Facebook following reports of police stopping church service and a beach party today.
A church service in Bolans was cut short because it breached the limit of 25 for all gatherings as well as a beach party in Deep Bay.
Browne shared, ” We are very disappointed with the response thus far by certain irresponsible residents, who are violating our social distancing policy, to include limiting gatherings to 25. Also, we note the suicidal responses of some individuals of faith and their blatant disrespect for the laws of our country”.
Browne is imploring the public to respect the health protocols and the laws of our country.
“Our collective efforts are required, to contain Covid and protect the health of our nation, irrespective of our faith, ethnicity, nationality, or social standing.” he said.

Please Mr PM complete lock down now…. You of all person should know the people you are dealing with. The inhabitants of Antigua extremely indiscipline. Lock down the country now…. Everyone should stay indoors.
Do not delay Mr PM for the health of the nation do not take any chances Lock it down restrict movement completely. Look at the litter problem, traffic violations, etc, patriotism is not Antigua’s strong point, please err on the side of caution and let them say you are over reacting.
By the way Mr PM now is the best time to launch a massive advertising campaign for the tourism product:
1 The two main markets are at home like never before glued to their tvs for covid19 updates.
2 The advertisements could be infomercials about our twin island state. Not necessarily to invite anybody here but giving general info about the country showing people having loads of fun all over the nation.
3 The cost of advertisement should be lower at this time.
Now is the best time to advertise you will never have so many eyes watching as before. Reverse the decision Mr PM, the decision to stop advertising was short sighted. Think long term not immediate returns
Can’t agree with your idea of advertising to our main markets. They are not on track to be travelling anytime soon.
Far better we go to total lockdown now, stop the spread and be virus free in a few months.
Then we can invite the other virus free counties in. I bet the Chinese will keep the hotels full year round, no more hurricane season shutdowns.

Save the money as the treasury is going to need it! When this journey eventually ends, it will be followed by global recession and depression in some places. Antigua is a luxury destination, and people will not be travelling to luxury destinations. People do not want to be looking at Caribbean holiday destinations, when worried about jobs, rent, mortgages, and loved ones who are ill or in some cases, dying.
The airline industry will be looking for government bailouts, which means travel will not be cheap, and people will already be in debt. If you’re a destination that has recovered well from this pandemic, you will still feel the sting.
This crisis is a longhaul journey, as until there is a vaccine, it will be a case of containment in waves.
Great, start a forest fire and then try to put it with buckets of water. You the one who let the virus in now you tryna control it, you can’t stop the inevitable. But good luck on you effort, for the record we’re all going about this the wrong way

I think, no gathering at all would be the best to keep the people away from socializing for the mean time. Until every one would know the significance and importance of “Social Distancing”.
I may sugest as well, to limit the people entering groceries or other stores like what other country do. They limit like 10 people at a time (or less depending how big tbe store is) who can enter a grocery to get and buy they need and the next batch will come in, to also implement the real social distancing.
And, hope everyone will wear a protective mask or any protection to prevent spreading droplets of saliva to each and everyone. We all don’t know who may be with virus or not. Let’s all be considerate to everybody.
Sadly, I do think the reality to allow even a gathering of 10 persons is extremely flawed, as it is likely to be violated as well … The attitudes of these Bolan’s church goers does show an inner defiance and lack of real understanding to the severity of what is going on in the world! These people appeared to be in the most vulnerable age group, they not only put themselves at great risk, but also the police officers trying to do their duty! No. Unless its an official government meeting of National importance, I believe immediate lockdown of all and any gatherings is very reasonable under the circumstances we and the rest of the world find ourselves in. Lockdown is the most responsible thing to do…

Lockdown on all social gatherings!!!. People naturally have no discipline whatsoever… even if they and meet 10 people there already, they won’t turn back and any others after them will do just the same and today will repeat itself over and over! Cease ALL social gatherings. It’s the only thing that’s working. Eliminate the curve.

Good morning all. Social distancing is encouraged here in Canada. It works folks. Persons are being cautious about their health and being conscientious of others. I’d like to encourage Christians to pray at home and mentain a good testimony before God and man. We are all in this together. Work with your Govt for a better country. Remember u are the church, not the building. Do your duty and pray against this demonic plague. Finally here we are all connected via social media praying and believing God. Rest in GOD. examine your selves and see if u are still walking with God. The church should be an example for the rest of the world. If u cuss and fight and struggle who will.follow u. Be not unwise understand the times that we are living in. Jesus Christ is Lord! Do the right think. Rest and pray. Love your neighbour as your self.
