This week the British High Commission was honoured to host a welcome reception for the Board and Administrative Team of the Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony, including Her Excellency KarenMae Hill, Antigua and Barbuda’s High Commissioner to the UK and Chair of the Board, alongside members of the UK’s Royal Overseas League.
After COVID forcing the League to provide online tuition, all were grateful that they were able to visit Antigua and Barbuda to further strengthen their relationships with and provide face-to-face coaching and lessons to the Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra.
During the reception the League performed a selection of beautiful renditions. They and the Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra will be hosting a concert on Sunday 12 December at the St John’s Pentecostal Church House of Restoration on Lauchland Benjamin Drive.
The Resident British Commissioner, Ms Lindsy Thompson, noted that this event had been a longstanding discussion between the two Commissioners and she was happy to bring it to a reality.
Thompson stated “the night was symbolic of the extensive relationship between both countries” and applauded the various entities for their efforts in realising the cultural exchange that will increase the skills of young, local musicians.
Commissioner Karen-Mae Hill was delighted the British High Commission was able to host the event and noted that all the board members of the youth symphony orchestra were volunteers, which stood as a testament to their passion and interest in youth development.
