Bret Pulling Away from the Lesser Antilles

SOURCE: NOAA – 800 AM AST Fri Jun 23 2023 Tropical Storm Bret is gradually moving away from the Lesser Antilles, according to the latest update.

At 800 AM AST, the center of Tropical Storm Bret was located near latitude 13.4 North, longitude 63.6 West.

It is moving westward at a speed of 18 mph (30 km/h).The forecast indicates that this general motion will continue throughout the weekend, taking Bret away from the Windward Islands and across the eastern and central Caribbean Sea in the coming days.

With maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (95 km/h) and higher gusts, Bret is expected to weaken in the next couple of days.

It is likely to dissipate over the central Caribbean Sea by Saturday night or Sunday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km) primarily to the north of the center.

While the government of St. Lucia and France have discontinued the Tropical Storm Warning for their respective areas, a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Residents and interests in the southeastern Caribbean Sea are advised to monitor the progress of Bret closely.

The hazards affecting the land include potential rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches, with maximum amounts up to 10 inches, across portions of the Lesser Antilles from Guadeloupe south through St. Vincent and the Grenadines, including Barbados.

This heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding, especially in areas of higher terrain, and urban flooding is also possible.

Additionally, swells generated by Bret are expected to subside along the Lesser Antilles, while increasing in areas adjacent to the central Caribbean Sea.

These swells may pose life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Local weather offices should be consulted for further information.
