SOURCE: NOAA – Tropical Storm Bret, which has been affecting the eastern Caribbean region, is gradually losing strength as it continues its westward movement.
According to the latest update at 5:00 PM AST, the storm’s center was located near latitude 13.1 North and longitude 66.6 West.
Despite the weakening, rainfall and gusty winds persist in the Windward Islands.
The maximum sustained winds of Bret have decreased to 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts.
It is moving west at a speed of 21 mph (33 km/h) and is expected to maintain this general motion over the weekend.
The forecast track indicates that the center of the storm will traverse the eastern and central Caribbean Sea, north of the ABC Islands, in the next few days.
No coastal watches or warnings are currently in effect. However, interests in the ABC Islands are advised to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Bret closely.
Rainfall associated with the storm is gradually diminishing across the Lesser Antilles as it progresses westward across the Caribbean.
Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the southern parts of the Lesser Antilles, spanning from St. Lucia to Grenada.
Swells generated by Bret are expected to gradually subside along the Lesser Antilles throughout the day.
However, areas adjacent to the central Caribbean Sea can expect an increase in swells, which may cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
Local residents are urged to stay informed and follow guidance from their local weather office.
As Bret weakens, the storm is projected to dissipate over the central Caribbean Sea by Sunday.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1004 mb (29.65 inches).
The authorities continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Residents and visitors in the affected areas are advised to exercise caution and stay updated with the latest weather advisories.
Please stay tuned to local news sources and official weather channels for the most accurate and up-to-date information on Tropical Storm Bret.
