Jamale Pringle Secures UPP Leadership

Jamale Pringle, who assumed the role of acting party leader from Harold Lovell following Lovell’s resignation after the January 2023 election, has clinched the leadership of the United Progressive Party (UPP).

Pringle’s journey to leadership began in March 2018 when he became Opposition Leader after the UPP’s near-total defeat in the previous election, where he retained the party’s only seat in the House of Representatives.

Despite initial skepticism from analysts, Pringle’s victory tonight cements his position as party leader and may quiet some doubts about his leadership capabilities.

However, the road ahead presents challenges as he navigates rallying support within the party, crafting his image as a potential Prime Minister, and confronting incumbent Gaston Browne of the Labour Party.

The coming days will shed light on Pringle’s strategies for unifying MPs and party candidates, shaping his leadership identity, and preparing for political battles against Browne’s administration.

  1. Congratulations on winning the leadership contest your Honourable Jamale Pringle.

I’m surprised, but well done 👍🏾

Let’s see if the recent love-in that the ABLP and Gaston Browne had for you stays, or will, as we all expected that they think you are an easier opponent than your Honourable UPP contender.

WATCH ALL OF THEM ABLP REVERT BACK TO THEIR NASTINESS AGAINST YOU MR PRINGLE.

    So predictable …

    • Poor Brix, another nail in your coffin. Watch you pushing for RL, who reminds me much of Lovell: Full of sound and Fury but signifying nothing.

    • @ Brixtonian: Opportunities only pass by once….. Pringle can consider himself very lucky. Now is the time for Pringle to upgrade his skills so he can give better representation.

      • the boy is a facking dunce, no personality, mean and badminded! it was just a popularity contest so he won. Gaston go embarrass he some more, Pringle is the worst speaker ever to be in parliament 🤣😂 Richard is the better man. Lastly, you parliamentarians who think your money and influence will give you impunity think again because those messages you’re sending to certain females on social media and the young girls homes you going to at nights is not a good look

    • Gaston prediction that Pringle would beat lewis….proved the tap dawg political prowess…
      Enough said!

      • Gaston Browne is always a winner….. He is a leader that study the moves before he makes a decision…..

  2. Always remember, people remember how you make them feel. Jamale may not be the best speaker but he is a good listener!

  3. This Guy CANNOT lead UPP to win election . 2028 is a sure win for ABLP. Why return the MAN COW / HOG WITH LIPSTICK to CHAIRPERSON of UPP ?

BRIXTONIAN must be fuming. He wanted Richard Lewis to win. BRIXTONIAN always back losers.

    • @ INGRAM
THAT MUSSA HAT U N GASTON, LAMMING, PAM, PETE AND ALL THE MINIONS AND ALL THE 3,500,000 BIRD SUPPORTERS AND MAN COWS/ AND HOG WITH LIPSTICK THAT DROP YOU GUYS FROM HOLLOW TREE.

      TEK DAT INNA R U NENEN 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
HOORAY TO ONE OF THE MOST HIGHLY INTELLIGENT WOMAN IN ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA.
      A TRUE SHE-RO.

      • @TENMAN

BRIXTONIAN is a loser. UPP is DOOMED under Pringle. They got a chance to REVITALIZE the party but missed it. According to Mr. Knight. UPP is OLD WINE in OLD BOTTLE.

        2028 sure win for ABLP.

  4. Gisele Isaac-Arrindell really mean she don’t want no JAMAICAN in “arwee subben”

Now that’s a woman with MORE BALLS than the little punks trying to disrespect her and trying to seize control of HER party!!! You go girl…..you are the real deal.

  5. Congratulations to Honourable Pringle on retaining the leadership of the United Progressive Party. Now that elections are concluded the Party can move forward and provide much needed guidance and leadership for supporters of the party and all Antiguans and Barbudans.

  6. Let’s see who issues an apology first. J-Fruit On the DL or Pringle? J Fruit on the DL, cursed Pringle and spoke about the UPP Party Leader as if he was sh*t on his shoe.
The disrespect that J Fruit showed to his Leader was unbecoming. Nasty and disrespectful.
It shows that The DL man has lost his effectiveness and whomever paid him to viciously abuse Pringle, should ask back for their money. Fruity pops has lost his ability to sway anyone and his vitriol rhetoric is falling on deaf ears. He couldn’t get anyone to vote for Richard anymore than he could get Asot’s cologne from his beard.
It seems that J Fruit, is a spent element. He’s now ready for the dustbin of UPP history.

    • @ Coming Down
Y DON’T U GO AND ADVISE GASTON AND THE ABLP ON ALL THE ILLS OF THE COUNTRY :
      – THE MASSIVE INCREASE IN CRIME
      – THE UNBEARABLE HIGH COST OF LIVING
      – THE STATE OF THE ROADS
      – THE FILTH OF THE COUNTRY
      – THE NEPOTISM AND LAND GRABBING
      – MAYBE U NEED TO COME DOWN AND AND ”TALK SOME SENSE IN THE CORRUPT ABLP”

      • Where is the massive crime? Antigua is relatively safe. You want to compare Antigua with a small island like St kitts and see rapid crime?
Antigua is dirty because of people like you, dirty mouth & dirty minded people keep their homes, underwear, lifestyle and country the same way. As soon as the PM does something good like covered bus stops, someone comes and destroys it with a stone. Evil and non patriotic rotten elements are hell bent on keeping Antigua dirty. There’s a huge improvement in the way Antiguans live. The roads are being fixed, water water every where.
You are the problem spreading lies.

        • @ Coming Down

It’s very obvious that you don’t live in STINKING DUTTY ANTIGUA.
Sometimes rubbish not picked up for weeks on end.
How many people go missing in the country on a regular basis and the police do nothing to help.
Twice they shot people running from them in the back.
Do you have any idea of the hunger, poverty and prostitution in the country as a result of the tough economic times exacerbated by the draconian tax measures introduced by the ABLP when they promised no new taxes?
Does not make sense preaching and talking to you minions.
          The truth hurts

  7. In a mean while Uncle Gassy somewhere on his phone reading the comments saying laughing his arse off🤣🤣🤣🤣 saying ah yes another election me.go win…..

    • @ Chupes

      Another election ‘he go win’?
DID HE EVER WIN ONE? OR ANOTHER ELECTION HE GO ”TIEF”, AS CLEARLY STATED OUT OF HIS MOUTH?????

      • I really do wonder just how much u get paid to keep replying to every and anyone on here. Cause one person can’t be so miserable and pressed by other people OPITION especially since u don’t wvwn know them. One are one sorry individual

          • As I said u must be paid to reply to every and anybody. One person can’t be so hot bothered and pressed like a punani over other people’s OPITION!!!! Go seek help!!!!

  8. Richard Lewis go eat some HUMBLE pie 🥧
You were too PRIDEful and ENVIOUS of Mr. Pringle
Too ENTITLED and a big PAPPYSHOW!!

When will you realize that UPP dont want you Richard?

  9. All Gaston have to do is call the election now. We will see who win. I predict that the A.L.P. would loose if an election is called now.

    • Most Stupid comment of the week. Call election now? What have you been smoking? Pringle had his entire cabinet sign a letter stating he was an idiot and they didn’t trust his leadership. It’s only a matter of time the entire UPP implodes.
You put the same people who have kept the UPP out of government, right back in leadership positions and expect a different result if this isn’t insanity, I don’t know what is.

  10. You people really vote back this waste of time who could barely read his speech last night? I wanted Richard to win so bad. This is more of a popularity contest or what? 😵 chupes!!

  11. Today, we witnessed true democracy. ALP still can’t complete a Primary after several weeks as a result of dishonesty. The big question now; when will the long overdue ALP Leadership Convention be held? I’m asking for Chet, he’s getting impat.

  12. ANR news! Not because Jamale Pringle is the Opposition Leader in parliament and now officially the Political Leader of the UPP means that he is the only potential prospective Prime Minister. Once Parliament is dissolved and and election date is announced, all parliamentary positions are automatically dissolved from Prime Minister to Ministers of government, Opposition Leader, Members of Parliament and and Senstors become null and void. This means that all mentioned persons in parliament have now become ordinary citizens. Jamale Pringle would retain his position as the Political Leader of the UPP and once the election is held and the UPP becomes victorious and form the next government, then anyone in the UPP who won their seat can become or is the next potential Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda once he commands the majority of support from the rest of his colleagues in the party to be elected as the next Prime Minister.

  13. I have nothing against the Honorable Jamale Pringle. I think he is a great leader but I just wanted to set the record straight that anyone in the UPP can become the next Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda once the party wins at the polls in the next general election.

    • THE MIRROR you are simply stating the constitutional position. The Governor General must appoint the person as Prime Minister who commands the support of the majority of the Party who won the elections. So for example, if after the ALP’s last election win the majority of their parliamentarians decided that they wanted someone other than Gaston Browne to be Prime Minister that person would be appointed Prime Minister pursuant to section 69 of the Constitution.

    • So many ifs. The UPP voted for a man who is incapable of being PM. He lacks the mental maturity and intellect to run a government & country. Electing Pringle just gave the ABLP another victory over the UPP.
You are now explaining why Pringle can’t be PM and already trying to find his replacement.
Pringle, God forbid it but if UPP wins at the next general election, will become the next PM. Antiguans need to understand this.
There’s no way a man like Mr Pringle could keep our great nation and the accomplishments of Gaston Browne moving in the right direction.
      I shudder at the thought.

      • Look how the ALP rats are all up in UPP business! Tinman, Ingram, and all these????, are weighing in with their inconsequential nothing.
Tell the DAWG to follow your laws and have a convention then maybe you can rid your party and the country of this scourge.
To all you cool aid drinkers, behold democracy at work. Can ALP handle that? With all the flip-floppers, Judases, traitors, Pig meats, pancakes and the life? I don’t think so.

        • @ Watching, let those ABLP supporters have their so-called day in the limelight, because with all the more serious issues troubling the country, all they can focus on is our UPP leadership election. So funny!

          GOOD FOR DEM DESPERADO’S.

Leave them alone, let them keep clutching at straws … that’s all they’ve got!

But, the likes of you, me and other like-minded UPP supporters MUST keep calling out ABLP’S BAD governance.

My only concern for Antigua & Barbuda at present, is while the focus is on the Honourable Jamale Pringle and Richard Lewis, is what dubious legislation is Gaston Browne trying to slip through, whilst the country is distracted?

Again boss, keep the faith, a lot can happen before UPP rescues the country … 🤜🏽🤛🏽

  14. Congrats to the Hon Jamale Pringle. Now, let’s move on to ABLP nepotism and personal enrichment which is just corruption by another name. Keep on him Richard Lewis; no let up.
And for those talking about prediction, Gaston predicted that Dave George would win also and was ready to give away the whole of Antigua to make it happen. Yet Shuggy beat he, and Dave George like a roadmarch.
    Go get them UPP!

  15. Ah bayyyyyyy Richard Lewis you tried it with your endorsement ah bayyyy never LEADERSHIP YOU CAN GET ahhhh bayyyyy Ah bayyyyyyy Richard Lewis you tried it with your endorsement ah bayyyy never LEADERSHIP YOU CAN GET ahhhh bayyyyy

I’m so happy for PRINGLE now this teaches him a lesson in integrity and loyalty

    Congratulations PRINGLE

  16. In this case it was only right he stayed as leader since, since he was there before many and alone. I like when things are democratic but I think folks need to think fair.

I hope this party gets better, in hopes that good competition in Antigua and Barbuda’s politics will result in better government for the people

  17. The UPP Community has spoken, and it has done so, in a unified manner.
While CONGRATULATIONS are in order for Jamal Pringle, MP, it’s simply a new chapter in the history of the UPP; and one, which will be defined by how well the Party is held together, by the cohesive strength and power of the Jamal Pringle era.

The ABLP and Gaston Browne, MP appears to have this notion, that Pringle is a pushover, so, they threw even their kitchen sink behind him, but, less they the ABLP forget the Italian People did the same in support of Benito Mussolini in the early years of his rise to power. So, let Gaston Browne, PM thinks, that he can be the #dictator in all aspects and facets, of the People’s lives in the Nation of Antigua, Barbuda & REDONDA with his channeling, of #Mr_☠️_Braggaocio! He should be reminded, of how the Italians treated Benito Mussolini at the end of his political career.

The ABLP could have possibly awoken, their worst #Nightmare_Party…kum een Chalice…for their political party.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS to Jamal Pringle, MP. You ain’t the #Single_Pringle no more. Use your mandate 🦉wisely.

  18. Look how the Labourites and Gastonites all up in UPP business! There’s democracy at work for you clowns.
Tell the DAWG to follow the laws of your party and hold a convention. The idiot DAWG was telling the traitors on his Rumshop that ALP is gaining ground and UPP’s popularity is waning.
Just part and parcel of the endless lies this clown spills.
UPP’s business is no concern of yours Labourites and Gastonites. Deal with the internal problems you’re having with the flip-floppers and shape shifters dominating your party.

  19. Lewis will never be acceptable to the UPP because his wife is an immigrant. The UPP has always been a party that opposed foreigners especially Caricom nationals. This was used against him when he challenged Lovell and it raised its ugly head again this time. Lewis has to take a hard look at himself amd ask if he should really be a part of the UPP.
Secondly, Giselle raised the forces against him so that she could maintain control. She contols Pringle but Lewis is his own man. And finally Lewis was arrogant and overplayed his hand. He should never have published the letter of the endorsements he received. It gave the forces against him the time to undermine that support. Just shows what a political novice he is.

  20. All I know is that this is the final nail in the UPP coffin. They would remain in the wilderness for yet another 28 years. 1976 thru 2004. This will be 2014 thru 2032. And perhaps counting. Pringle was elected in 2018 and was advised by the PM to improve himself and to et educated. It’s now 2024, 6 years later and he has not done anything to improve himself to be a credible alternative of becoming a Prime Minister. Just like what happened to Baldwin Spencer, others will come behind the scene and run the country. Pringle is already a puppet to Giselle and her clan. This will not work this time around. If they want to run government they should come through the front door. Get elected. Sorry for the supporters. First you presented a bunch of criminals to the voting public. Some murderers, Conmen, Rapists, and Laggards. They don’t even make decent presentations in Parliament.

    • @ Less We Forget (aka Gaston Brown)
And with all that said you still had to ‘TIEF’ the election from the conmen, rapists and laggards.
You are an illegitimate Prime Minister.
      Antiguans and Barbudans DETEST U.
The biggest CONMAN of all calling other people conmen. What irony.

  21. I am a Pringle voter but to be fair, Lewis did not stand a chance. I hang around and watched the voting process.
Although I wanted Pringle to win because he is from my area, I know most of those people there so I know who they support. The boxes were surrounded by Pringle supporters acting as workers.
I also watched the shameless conduct of three members of the UPP executive right there in the lobby next to the boxes campaigning for Pringle. One of them is a lawyer. To me they looked desperate.
They did not stop even when people told them what they were doing was wrong and it was unfair. Some people were very disgusted. I did not think they did Pringle any favors with their unethical behaviour.

  22. @Charles Tabor. Thanks for this. You have just confirmed my point of view concerning the appointment of the Prime Minister according to the Constitution.

  23. @Charles Tabor. Thanks for this. You have just confirmed my point of view in the process of the selection and appointment of the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda in the aftermath of an election.

  24. UPP can’t be serious…. It’s as if y’all just love doing everything on hard mode. Y’all literally just secured another ABLP victory. The candidates Gaston putting forward next election are going to be a clean slate of young and well groomed fresh talent. Educated individuals, Intellectuals, Politically bloodied individuals, thinking for the future, 10yr+ plan. Yet the UPP out here playing popularity contest instead of focusing on what is good for the party. Pringle has done NOTHING to improve himself since 2018 to my knowledge. He shows little to no growth. He (sorry for saying it) is not considered an intellectual or very well spoken. He cannot challenge Gaston Browne, intellectually, politically, is less likable ….. how does one look at Pringle’s personal achievements and think that his Resume screams future prime minister? He can barely speak in a radio interview or in parliament without tripping over himself, how is he going to represent us at summits, the UN and other international engagements? What shared intellectual conversation can he share with likes of other global leaders a Macron, a Rishi Sunak, a Xi Jinping…. when bargaining and dealing…. … are they going to speak about their shared love of Maskizzzz or their shared inability to pronounce numerical figures? UPP dropped the ball on this one. It would have been easier to invest in Richard Lewis than to try grooming Pringle into something we know he could not become or would take to long to become…. Frankly that he doesn’t want to become because if he cared he would’ve taken the initiative to invest in his self improvement. He would have been honest and looked at himself and realize he needs to rise to the occasion. Sadly the shadow powers that be want someone weak like him at the helm so they can run the show. The UPP is run via proxy and Pringle is just a Moctezuma. He is the beta male, yes man that D G Issac, Lovell et tal need to do their bidding because he doesn’t have the 2 brain cells to rub together.

    Young Antiguan Professional.

    • @ Whoever, Hokey Pokey or Maddman
You and your several monikers writing the same crap. It should make it easier therefore for you to retain power don’t you think? I am however reading concern and desperation in your writings.
GIVE ANTIGUANS A CHOICE BETWEEN ‘BRIGHT AND TIEF’ and ‘HONEST AND DUNCE’ , I AM QUITE SURE THAT THE MAJORITY WOULD CHOOSE PRINGLE OVER THAT NEPOTISTIC AND CRUEL AND SELFISH MAN

      • Apparently you are dunce, from the tone of comment one with common sense would deduce I’m a UPP supporter…. So your comment of retain power is stupid… so blind in your blind support of Pringle you couldn’t even come to that obvious conclusion….
