Several government MPs walked out of the Lower House moments ago, joined by members of the public in the gallery.
They were protesting remarks by Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle, who began delivering a scathing review of Sir Molwyn Joseph, who is retiring from active politics after 38 years.
Pringle said he would not be gracious to Sir Molwyn, the current MP for St. Mary’s North, citing how the veteran politician had treated him in Parliament.
The opposition leader said Sir Molwyn’s tenure was marked by controversy and incompetence.
Members of Parliament on both sides of the political aisle were at the time paying tribute to Joseph, newly installed MP Randy Baltimore, and the late MP Eustace “Teco” Lake.
While Pringle gave a glowing tribute to Lake and briefly welcomed Baltimore, he was not too kind to the senior MP.
Pringle told the Lower House that Sir Molwyn presided over a deteriorating health sector and a constituency in neglect.
At least five MPs joined members of the public in walking out in protest. They returned once Pringle took his seat.
Opposition MP Richard Lewis praised Joseph for his contributions over his 38 years, while Barbuda MP Trevor Walker described Sir Molwyn as one of the best debaters in the Lower House.
Pringle said it was not all positive and urged the House to be honest in its assessment of Joseph.

That’s not breaking news… “THE TRUTH HURTS “… good riddance…
A display of who can’t handle the truth?
Absolute juvenile behaviour from Parliamentarians who should no better. I recently watched a right wing party in the UK do a similar walkout, and they were rightly vilified by the other Members of Parliament in attendance.
Murder and mayhem is currently gripping Antigua, and these sensitive out of touch – and hardened -reprobates are troubled by a few words???
Can someone please make sense of what’s going on in the country that I love and adore, because I can’t…
Isn’t Sir MoleWYN the very same man who lifted the Rolls-Royce over the port fence?
Isn’t he the same one who said he was a micromanager?
Isn’t he the same one who months before Lionel Michael turned 60 years got rid of him?
Is t he the same one you was quick to see the back of Shaq as the leader technician at MSJMC?
Is he not the same one who oversee the closure of the All Saints Clinic for over a thousand days before one grain of sand was disturbed?
Is he not the one who ended the night clinics at Grays Farm?
Wasn’t it under the watch of Sir MoleWYN that several other clinics were deteriorated to closure?
Let us stop use the parliamentary halls as a place to breed, nurture and grow hypocrisy.
There is nothing wrong with what Pringle did.
He spoke truth to power.
We must stop cannonizing devils.
Let parliament be the place where truth is preached
Leadership Matters indeed. PISS POOR CONDUCT in the part of Pringle.
