Governor General Advised to Dissolve Parliament April 1; Election Date Pending
Prime Minister Gaston Browne told Parliament he has formally advised Governor General Rodney Williams to dissolve Parliament on April 1, setting the stage for a general election within weeks.
Browne said the advice was given in accordance with Section 60(1) of the Constitution, which allows the Governor General to dissolve Parliament acting on the prime minister’s advice.
“I have written to His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams today, advising him,” Browne said, adding that the move would trigger the next phase of the electoral process.
He indicated that while the government had initially planned for Parliament to be prorogued immediately—allowing elections as early as April 17—the timeline was adjusted to give the opposition additional time to prepare.
“It’s evident the opposition is not quite ready as yet… they still do not have a full slate,” Browne told the House, noting that colleagues had encouraged him to allow “a few more days” for readiness.

Under the revised plan, Parliament will be dissolved by proclamation on April 1. The writ of election is expected to be issued either on that date or within a week, depending on the opposition’s preparedness.
Browne said once the writ is issued, general elections must be held within 21 days, meaning a possible election date in late April.
“We will not give the members on the other side more than an additional week,” he said.
Further correspondence will be sent to the Governor General outlining the final timeline, including nomination day and the official election date.
The announcement signals the formal start of the election process in Antigua and Barbuda, with political parties expected to finalize candidates and campaign plans in the coming days.

We have to keep them out even if we don’t want to.
They don’t have a full slate of KNOWN candidates and there are too many internal struggles that will affect how successful they are in leading.

Something is desperately fishy here, desperately fishy.
I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if this man is covering up something deadly that’s about to come out.
He is seeking cover of some kind..got to be.
I’m wondering what the FBI found in the CEO of WIOC phone, and what other evidence they have in the Maduro case pertaining to this corrupt man GB?
Something smells fishy here, big time.
And by the way folks, I’m never wrong about this man, never.. GB is trying to coverup something or trying to get cover by getting reelected again, because if he becomes a regular citizen, his arse is grass, trust me.
This man is tied to too many corrupt people to just go untouched.
Even the great ” Teflon Don” Jon Gotti wasn’t immune from the long arms of the law.
Huuumm.. something is fishy here..I smell a rat, a big ole rat.
THERE SHOULD BE FIXED DATE ELECTIONS IN ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA.RIGHT NOW,THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A 5 YEARS CYCLE. HOWEVER,THE LEADER OF THE ADMINISTRATION COULD CALL AN ELECTION AT ANYTIME WITHOUT REASONS.HE COULD WAKE UP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BED AND DECIDED ELECTIONS IN 90 DAYS.IN MY OPINION,IT IS VERY DISRESPECTFUL TO THE CONSTITUENTS.IF THERE WERE FIXED DATE ELECTIONS.THIS BULL DUNG WOULD NOT HAPPENED.WHAT ARE THE REASONS WHY AN ELECTION IS BEING CALLED AT THIS TIME AGAIN? HOW MANY MORE OF THESE SURPRISE ELECTIONS ARE GOING TO BE CALLED BY GASTON BROWNE? PEOPLE OF ANTIGUA,WAKE UP AND BE COUNTED.TAKE YOUR HEADS OUT OF THE SAND.
@ BSC YOUNG BOYS OF BERN.Total abuse of SNAP ELECTIONS similar to what MOTTLEY did in BARBADOS. It appears MIA MOTTLEY is running ANTIGUA. GASTON BROWN SEES THE SUN RISE AND SET IN MOTTLEY RECTUM(final section of the large intestine).Snap elections are called when one is not sure of themselves unable to finish the 5 years cycle no STAMINA.Gaston Browne is not in MOTTLEY class, she paid over 30,000 CLICO/BAICO policyholders 100% of their money that was due to them, also LIAT (1974) LTD workers in BARBADOS 100% of their severance that was due to them by LAW.The government of BARBADOS borrowed money and increased the DEBT ceiling by issuing BONDS to meet the obligation to the 30,000 CLICO/BAICO policyholders and LIAT (1974) LTD workers their100% severance, she won all 30 seats in parliament at the general elections by telling the people on the political platform “GIMME THE VOTE AND WATCH MUH”if elected to office i will pay you your money, PROMISE MADE PROMISE KEPT.MOTTLEY is a leader of class and integrity unlike GASTON BROWNE . Mottley will always win the general elections.UPP that is the recipe for VICTORY.
@islanman26 well said what about the proceeds from the SALE of the RUSSIAN OLIGARCH yacht ALFA NERO? I think the lawyer G.B is suing in the U.S is a close ally to PRESIDENT TRUMP.The department of justice attorney general MADAME PAM BONDI and THE MIGHTY CA$H PATEL would deal with GASTON BROWNE and the bush lawyer from DOMINICA big ole RAT.
UPP liberate the CLICO/BAICO policyholders in ANTIGUA and pay us our money it is over 17 years of suffering unable to meet our daily FINANCIAL needs.Gaston Browne has no intentions of paying the policyholders.NOTE: TRINIDAD, BARBADOS, GUYANA ,ST LUCIA,and most recently GRENADA have paid their policyholders 100% of their money.(FACT CHECK).GASTON BROWNE won the general elections by re introducing TAX FREE salary.
