BREAKING: AT&LU calls on ALL EMPLOYEES to stay home on Monday and Tuesday in protest of mandatory vaccination

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Further to our press release of 16th September 2021, the Antigua Trades and Labour
Union wish to make it pellucid that its intention was not to create confrontation at
any workplace, but simply to ensure that if Permanent Secretaries or Managers
intends to implement the Government’s Mandatory Vaccination Policy, that the
employees would leave the workplace peacefully.

In consideration of the Prime Minister’s response to our release, we are asking
ALL EMPLOYEES to stay at home on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st, September
2021 in protest of the Government’s Mandatory Vaccination policy, which we
consider to be unreasonable.

We will provide further update on the way forward by Monday 20th September 2021.

  1. The union should be providing leadership to their members and urging them to get vaccinated. Instead they issue the most pathetic call aimed at the lowest level of worker. Why aren’t the unions acting like actual unions and calling for a strike for safe working conditions and for stay at home pay?

      Every body has a choice. Just like you made a choice to take the vaccine there are those who are not comfortable in it as yet hence the reason they are not vaccinated yet. I disagree with your comment.
      These people are entitled to share and display their displeasure; just as if you are displeased with something you would express it. They are doing it in the form of strike, you prefer them to express violently?

      What people should do is try to understand reasons behind of the situations of each persons. Some are: religious, medical and etc.

      • Who nah work nah get pay. There’s no legal obligation to compensate striking workers. The government already has it hard to pay salaries as it is and I’m sure they’d be glad to take these folks off pay roll. And up to now y’all aren’t comfortable with getting vaccinated even though so much info out there on them and people have been getting vaccinated for however long? I just hope y’all lose your pay as you keep up this anti-vax ish. If you refuse or are “hesitant” to get the shot as cases continue to climb and we have seen the efficacy of the vaccines, you are an anti- vaxxer. Btw, I’ll be at work.

    • Urging? No one urged you so why shouldn’t they have a choice? What makes you more entitled to a choice than people who choose not to put something in their body that seems sketchy? SMH. Everyone has a right to exercise their rights to choose just like you. Maybe you were urged but at The end of the day you still made a choice to get vaccinated so that’s great for you.

      • I’m vaccinated with Moderna but I’m not so sure I’d do it again if given the choice

        Also there’s no way I’d take the AZ or sinopharm vaccines if that was the only choice.

        And given the data showing all of these vaccines have failed to end the pandemic in places highly vaccinated forcing people to take these vaccines seems especially egregious

  3. The unions should encourage their workers to get vaccinated before half of the work force dies from this thing, and we have to bring in vaccinated foreign worker to run the place.

This vaccine mandate has become very politicize and from what I know any Drug that is made by science has side effects plus the vaccine should stop the virus not allow me to still catch it and still spread it…. so quit trying to take the people rights of making a choice of what they want in there bodies.   11. Govt workers don’t work anyway. No one will miss them. The offices will run like they normally do, inefficient with poor/no customer service. Nobody cares.

While locals suffering he swimming in money and gets more for each person vaccination.   12. So with this bold policy of sending home unvaccinated workers, does the government have the funds at hand to pay severance. If a worker is sent home without pay, that worker has been suspended. Based on the Labour Code, a worker cannot be suspended for a period longer than 4 weeks. After that, it is a case of constructive dismissal. The dismissed workers will be entitled to their severance pay

      • If a worker shows up to work and that worker is sent home (suspended), in what context did the worker abandon his/her job?

    • The Government is not sending anyone home. They tell them to get vaccinated or don’t come to work. The workers have a choice. So if they choose not to take the vaccine and stay home that is on them. No severance will be payed because the workers made their choice. UNDERSTAND?
