The Brazilian Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda has been closed, the government in South American country has announced.

The Brazilian Foreign Ministry confirmed the closing of embassies in  Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The embassy in Antigua was located at Hodges Bay. Brazil and Antigua formally established diplomatic relations in 1982; Brazil opened its first embassy in St John’s in 2009, headed initially by Ambassador Brian Michael Fraser Neele.

Diplomatic representations were set up during the government of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Itamaraty reported that the embassies in Roseau and Saint John’s, capital cities of Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda, have already been closed. The other delegations “are in the process of closing,” according to a note sent to the press.

Minister Ernesto Araújo is also considering closing delegations in Sierra Leone and Liberia. The embassies in most African and Caribbean countries no longer have any staff.

Former Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer and Ambassador Raul Campos e Castro in 2012

Libya is in the same position. Itamaraty, however, denied any intention of closing the office in Tripoli.

During Lula’s terms of office, between 2003 and 2010, 67 overseas delegations were opened, mainly in small Caribbean and African countries.

Embassies in Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines were established in 2009, while that of Grenada was made official in 2008.

  1. Canadian visa waiver – gone
    US interview waiver – gone
    Scotia bank – gone
    Canadian banks- going
    Brazil embassy – gone
    Cruise ships – gone

Why is everyone deserting the economic powerhouse
It’s like the rats deserting a sinking ship, who’s next?????

    • Once Maduro is toppled in the near future, Venezuelan Embassy will be gone from here soon thereafter. Mark my words.

    • Boss you are truly full of it (Scotia is no longer a Canadian bank). This article makes clear they (Brazil)are pulling out of most countries, yet you try to blame it on some situation here and not on Brazil. You also know the same is true for the Canadian banks in terms of their decision being region wide. Here’s some news for you:

      1. Visa free last year to San Marino, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, Vatican City, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Senegal and Benin.
      2. Serbia granted visa free to A&B late last year
      3. Romania and A&B have established diplomatic relationship
      4. Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (RCCL) one of the Country’s key partners confirmed that larger ships will be serving the destination this upcoming season and we will see an increase to approximately 250,000 passengers this year from its various lines. Antigua and Barbuda continues to record strong customer satisfaction scores of 8.8 out of a maximum of 10 with RCCL guests.
      5. A major increase for the destination comes from a Key European cruise line partner TUI Cruises whose new ship the Mein Schiff 2, will increase calls to the destination after an absence of three years. Mein Schiff 2 will visit the destination on its inaugural call on November 6th with a total of 13 calls for season 2019/20 bringing over 37,000 passengers.
      6. April 2019 saw an increase of 17.06%, with 3,979 more visitors traveling to Antigua, compared with April 2018 when 23,322 visitors vacationed in Antigua and Barbuda.

Boss I get why you need the sky to be falling, but trust we will ensure if it does, it will only be on your house.

      • Stop lying to the people Tenman. Antigua always had visa free access to all those European countries you listed since the UPP signed the Schengen agreement in 2007. You know your constituents that you fool daily do not travel so you can chat shite about visa free access to Vatican city and Monaco
        1. The Vatican City is in Rome – it has no airport or seaport and no immigration or customs controls. Once you are landed in Italy and in Rome the Vatican is just an imaginary line around 100 acres of expensive real estate. You really need to travel and stop embarrassing yourself.
        2. San Marino, Andorra and Monaco also have no airports and are accessed through France and Spain and the Schengen visa is accepted if you are stopped at border control. That means the Schengen agreement the UPP signed covered travel to those countries. I have been to all three and never passed through border control.

        3. Leichtenstein also has no airport and once you are landed in Switzerland for which we had visa free access you can travel by car to that country, no passport needed.

I am not sure about Senegal and Benin or Greeland but knowing how you lie and spread propaganda on the daily I would urge everyone not to take your word for gospel.

      • MY FRIEND TEN – INTERESTING

Never any interest on commenting on these issues.

From this perspective (your last paragraph), if not the sky, What would you wish to happen when the rail falls?

    • @DessASSlines. Surly you read that the same goes for Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and even Libya.

But you “lub ugly” and want to see this country fail. By the grace of GOD it will prosper.

Have you forgiven your daddy yet? Make peace with him before your breathe of life goes back to the Creator!

  2. Oh well they probably seeing what the dicyaker doing looking out for himself alone so they getting out before it gets sticky

  3. What cruise ship is gone? Carnival reinstated its itinerary and royal Caribbean has almost double their’s and will be and investing in a land base entertainment facility plus is paying increased head tax.
Canadian banks are not just leaving antigua but the entire region. with ultra low sustained interest rates for one of the longest period in most recent history, there isnt much profitability for them in their eyes.
I dont know the details around the Brazilian embassy so I wont say much outside of the fact that their exodus is not isolated to Antigua so I’m not sure how the conclusion can be drawn that Antigua is sinking ship

  4. Dessallines you na tired chat shit? Did we ever have US visa interview waiver? how can something you never had be gone. Is Antigua the only country in the region that Scotia is pulling out of? And where the ships that gone? Them mussa dock in you dam backyard..

    • U have to forgive Dessallines is the sky turn pink at 12:00 in the afternoon Dessallines will think it is only happening in Antigua talk about being politically blind.

  5. Poor Dessallines she don’t know what she chatting about. Antigua strong. Antigua moving forward. Brazil now in the hands of a local Trumpite. That explains a lot. Dessalline, she have to look into these things more carefully. Girl, this is the New Antigua. Stop chatting so much and put your efforts into helping to build this country into the economic powerhouse The People want it to be, and it will be….already off to a great start. Power to the People! Forward Ever Backwards Never!

    • Actually believe it or not DesASSlines is a guy. But he has issues forgiving his old man for some hypocritical behaviour dating back to childhood.

You would think it’s a woman fu how he behave ent? LOL

  6. Tenman the sky is falling. Why the pensioners are being paid late monthly? You should be able to answer.Because you are an insider.
