BPM Leader Vows Exodus from Egypt-Like Political Climate in Barbuda

9

Trevor Walker, head of the Barbuda People’s Movement, likened the current political situation in Antigua and Barbuda to ancient Egypt’s authoritarian rule.

At the UPP convention, Walker aligned the BMP with the Opposition against the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Administration.

He criticized the government’s land policies in Barbuda, accusing them of trying to oppress residents by changing land ownership rules.

Walker vowed to resist these changes, emphasizing the historical importance of Barbudan land tenure.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Gaston Browne defended the government’s plans as beneficial for Barbuda’s development, envisioning significant progress ahead.

    • Are you saying the gun was hidden in a brown paper bag?
Still didn’t find a man yet? No one wants a nut job.
Acquire a different vocabulary, and that may help.

  1. Does anyone own land in Barbuda?? What is the land ownership rules in ,Barbuda? Why Trevor Walker owns land in Antigua? He has collateral in Antigua where he can go to the bank and borrow to invest. No such thing can be done in Barbuda period. There are calculated risks in investment and growth, what are the negatives in the changing of land ownership and what are the positives? At what cost? Who would benefit from such? Every mother country had sacrifices for growth, history shows that blood, sweat and tears are involved in growth.

    • Stop fooling yourself for your questions and statement illustrates the extent to which you are bias.
No none owns land on Barbuda, but there is a form of land tenure call “site control”
Interesting you write about banks borrow and invest. First many of Antigua villages looks like shanty towns. Many Antiguans are slave to their mortgages until they reach 70 years.
Only the foreigners (Caribbean bothers and sisters) live wooden houses on Barbuda that they rent to them. Barbudans are rebuilding their housing stock out of pocket after Irma
That’s the beauty of Barbuda they live off the land and water primarily as self-employed. No mortgage no foreclosure. Check the news paper. Bank taking and auctioning Antiguans houses or land almost daily.
What are the negatives. I’ll let you answer for yourself. When I was a youth we went to picnics on an off shore Cay Island Long. After it was sold to Millionaire foreign interest it was renamed Jumby Bay. Your non-bias behind can’t set foot on Jumby Bay unless you work over day.
Calculated risks in investment and growth are for private individuals not for Governments. Growth should be based on sound public policies.
Only two parties would benefit ALBP politicians and their followers and rich foreigners.
You are right about one statement. This one is likely to end up in blood sweat and tears.

  2. The lone gas station owner in Barbuda aka PHARAOH lame attempt at Gaslighting

  3. Time is nearing and coming soon, that we will have to build a bigger prison in Barbuda and also a bigger police and military post. because it seems that some are hell bend to defy the rule of law. They really believe they are a law unto themselves. And since Antigua and Barbuda is a UNITARY State, what laws are made in Antigua are also for Barbuda. And Barbuda does have a representative in our parliament. The police will just have to do their job. And in anticipation of potential unrest, the Commissioner needs to take preventive action and don’t wait till things have gone south. And the PM as the head of National Security should direct the military to set up camp down there. Just incase the police need some backup in the execution of maintaining Law and Order on the peaceful little Sister Island. A Word to the Wise.

    • Does Gaston care about Barbuda or just want to take the land for the benefit of himself, his family and some of his supporters? How much land in Barbuda does his wife now control? How much land in Antigua does he and his family own. All the luxury homes being built in Barbuda are not owned by Antiguans and Barbudans. How will Barbudans and Antiguans benefit? Gaston thinks that jobs as maids and gardeners are the only jobs Antiguans deserve. On his radio show on Saturday, he showed pictures of all the mansions being built in Antigua by expatriates. This to him is development. When Antiguans and Barbudans, other than politicians, are building these homes then Antigua will be really developing.
You are suggesting that the police and military should go to Barbuda, but remember when a government turns its guns on its own people, they are doomed. They should be careful the guns are not turned on them.

    • Cutie,
You didn’t remember the rule of law when you signed the passport papers.
Now you see fit to write about the rule of law.
Give me a break Sir Mr. Pillsbury
