Bitcoin Defamation Lawsuit Headed To Antigua High Court

Self-proclaimed Bitcoin inventor Craig Wright’s team has filed a lawsuit with the Antigua and Barbuda High Court against the Bitcoin.com CEO Roger Ver.

It all began with a video on Bitcoin.com’s YouTube channel, which featured Ver calling self-proclaimed Bitcoin creator Craig Wright a  ‘liar and fraud’.

CoinGeek reports that  Craig Wright’s team has filed a defamation claim with the Antigua and Barbuda High Court against the Bitcoin.com CEO Roger Ver. The latter has recently acquired Antiguan citizenship courtesy of the sovereign state’s Citizenship by Investment Program (CIP).

Since 2016, Craig Wright has been resorting to cryptographic proof to testify that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. The claim was met with severe criticism, scepticism and raised some really uncomfortable questions for him. For instance, White Ops Chief Scientist Dan Kaminsky alleged that Craig was the “world’s first cryptographically provable con artist.” A legal dispute is currently on to testify Craig’s claim that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, one made primarily on the basis of his ownership of many Bitcoin addresses active during the initial days and presumably, directly linked to the creator. To settle the controversy, the court decided to move ahead with a trial by jury in June this year.

  5. Is this the Roger Ver guy that in one story a week or two ago it was mentioned he might be some envoy or diplomat? Boy we sure know how to attract them..when will we learn?

  6. This is a major mess. Bring in our allies (China, Cuba, England, USA etc.) to investigate this whole mess and clear up the confusion.

    • What major mess? The fight i is about Ver saying Wright is not the bitcoin inventor. Many others have done the same. It is not about criminal activity.
      Ver already has a record, known by all and sundry for selling/ storing explosives without license in 2005. He did 10 months for the same. He renounced US citizenship but has since travelled to the US as a foreigner. He was never re-arrested in the US and their is no arrest warrant or wanted sign against him.
      You all think that this or any other economy in the Caribbean is going to bounce back based on the loans with foolish terms by world bank or IMF or by any US handout. St.Kitts have had so many attempts against its programme but they have used it since 1983 to build their economy. We can continue to play scared and wait for charity bread. Or we can find ways and means to survive is this post modern economy.

  7. Bitcoin has no owner, no custodian, and no central bank. Bitcoins are owned by those who mine them and buy them. They are not legal tender. They are personal property that can be exchanged for central bank notes. More important than botcoin is the blockchain, on which every transaction is recorded and in the public for all to see, trace, and investigate.
