Bishop Charlesworth Browne, Head of the Christian Ministries Center in Antigua and Barbuda, has demanded the Ministry of Health return an $86,700 donation from the Masonic Lodge.
The donation was intended for purchasing an ultrasound machine for the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center. Browne expressed concerns about the “sinister and evil” nature of the donation, noting that the amount, $86,700, is significant as an “Angel number.”
Browne advised the Ministry of Health to return the money, emphasizing the potential spiritual implications of accepting it.
He also highlighted his concerns about the donation being allocated to the hospital’s ultrasound department. Browne criticized the Lodge’s increasing openness, mentioning that even some clergymen are now involved, which he finds alarming.

It has always been said that it is better to keep silent and be thought a fool then to open your mouth and prove it. The utterances by the goodly Bishop are one of the finest attempts I have seen in the quest to prove just how foolish even a clergyman can be.
Whenever the question of Freemasonry is publicly discussed people of all walks of life seem to lose their powers of rational thinking and descend into the most vile and base kind of vitriol, attributing all sorts of sinister and unfounded motives to noble actions and intentions.
For the record, Freemasonry is an organisation that is built upon the principles of Brotherly Love, Truth, and Relief: Brotherly love to our fellowmen, standing on the principles of truth, and giving aid to those in need. This has been so from the very inception of Freemasonry. It is for this reason that even the members of the Clergy have ALWAYS been a part of the organisation. Furthermore, Freemasonry has built this world as many, many, many prominent and distinguished leaders all over the world were and are Freemasons. In fact, many civil organisations such as Lions and Rotary can trace their roots right back to Freemasonry. Many of the principles by which ordinary people live are Masonic in nature.
The donation made by this specific Masonic Lodge is nothing new, as Freemasons have been making these kinds of donations here in Antigua for eons.
This sensationalism and misguided thinking by people such as Bishop Browne serves no useful purpose in our society and has the effect of turning off well intentioned people who want to make a positive difference in the lives of those who are most vulnerable in our society.
I love and admire Bishop Browne for his steadfastness to his calling. In this case however, this charge is not a prudent one. The means by which the funds were solicited has no bearing on the good faith donation for its usage. Does he not know that some of the tithes and offerings that his church has reaped were derived from secular and sinister means as well? The donation was blessed and is now sacred in the sight of the Almighty, if he truly believes in the Bible. How can he substantiate the earnings of his congregation?
There are fundraising exercises being held in vast jurisdictions to aid in educational, medical and tragic life altering needs of people in financial direstraits.
It is imperative that we live our lives with certain degree of pragmatism.

The sinister and evil that you should be concerned about is that which takes place in churches (even YOUR OWN) where the most vulnerable who turn to religion for comfort are taken advantage of by pastors, ‘Bishops’ and the like.
But does it mean that in order to give help and support, all of them must have the biggest jobs in the land? Young men know now that to get anywhere they have to join the lodge.
We have problems in our election system because two lodge men, one of them a declared Worship Master in the lodge, have been places at the top of the system and they will do what they are bid to do. I grew up hearing lots of stories, but I wonder who is more evil, we as a country or the Masons? Just some advice to both parties:
Bishop, your judgements seem to be misguided and based off a hoax and conspiracy that has been debunked (by those who value truth) within a decade since its claims in the late 1800’s. Did you also know that all ‘lodges’ are not of the same origin and motive just as not all ‘churches’? Please do some educated research on the nature of fraternal organizations and have a basic idea of organizational structure before misleading yourself and the flock that is entrusted to your care. Find peace within yourself, your neighbor and with God without the need to judge (and mislead) others. Influential people should be to furnished with truth on any matter that they address.
To those who care to know, the article should have read ‘Worshipful Master’ and not ‘Worship Master’. This is a typographical error. The origins of the formal title ‘Worshipful’ is old British and simply refers to someone with a particular ‘Distinguished’ rank or honor.
TO THE MASONS, 1 Cor 13:3 states: “If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
Just ensure that whatever good you do, do it unto God, and heartily also, and not as unto men, neither do you need their praise. Scripture also says in Matthew 6:3, “But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth”. This is to ensure that your good is with pure motives and to protect your intentions from those who do not understand your charity.
