Centenarian Sarah Anne Evangeline Joseph AKA Veda Joseph, Mama Veda, passed away at 104 in Antigua and Barbuda.
Sarah Anne Evangeline Joseph AKA Veda Joseph, Mama Veda, was born 21* April, 1919.
She was first of the five children of Amelia Beatrice Richards AKA Dada B. Mama Veda
grew up never knowing her father, who died when she was a baby. Verna Frederic-
Francis, who resides in England, is her only surviving sibling. She is also a centenarian;
100 years 2 months 1 week.
Mama Veda was born in Green Hill, Liberta, right in the area where she now resides.
She never attended any Secondary school; never had any training in any special skill.
She grew up working in agriculture, in the fields on various estates and other local
farmers. She also worked as a domestic worker.
She enjoyed going to dances, picnics, christening parties, singing meeting and church.
She also travelled a lot to the USVI, BVI, England, USA, Curacao, St. Kitts & Nevis, Cuba
and many other places.
She was never married. She has seven children, all still alive.
Among her many grand
children are an airline pilot, a medical doctor, architect, teacher and contractor. Those
achievements make Mama Veda very happy.
She is not fussy about food; simply cook the usual food and she eats. Her sight,
although not 20/20 still allows her to see and read.
Her memory is still sharp and you
cannot outtalk her in a conversation. She suffers mostly from aches and pains in her
knees and hips.

Condolences to the family
ONE THOUGHT OR TWO
Condolences to the family and villagers of Liberta on the passing over of ‘Mama Vida’ after 104 years of excellence, also ‘Mother Charles’ of Liberta (104) three days ago.
Ms. Sarah Anne Evangelina Joseph, SGOE (Senior Grandparent Order of Excellence) always manifested in her life goodness and love for family and meaningful relationships. She was born with ‘nothing’ except a joyful attitude that she shared with the world!
We always ask: how is it that our Centenarians have longevity with mental health and stable physical health?
The Council of native, venerable, noble Centenarians descendants of our African ancestors say they eat daily the traditional foods of ‘ground provisions’, herbs and fruits and observed the mental, physical and spiritual benefits from their ‘clinical trials’.
They confirmed for themselves that plant-heavy foods from the soil, medicinal herbs, fruits, daily activity (exercise), sleep were needed to survive.
Also, their African spirituality internalized the hope of a better life, faith, while using the organized church. They are our survivors and today say to all:listen, learn and act on this advocacy for mental, physical and spiritual well being.
“The Lord hath created medicines out of the earth and he that is wise will not abhor them.”
Let us interact with humility, grace, honesty, good intentions!… Be nice to each other!
Save our Humanity, Save our Youths, Save our Environment, Save our Soil!!!
