The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has commenced basic police training at the Sir Wright F. George Academy.

A brief opening ceremony was held on Monday 24th June 2019, to mark what is considered to be a historic moment in the life of the police organization and the academy. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mrs. Louisa Benjamin-Quashie is set to take up command as the first ever female commandant of the academy, since it was established well over 50 years ago.

Founder and former commandant of the academy, former Commissioner of Police, Sir Wright F. George was present and addressed the new recruits. He also commended Assistant Superintendent of Police Quashie, in her role as first female commandant and wished her all the success.

Also present at the brief ceremony were Acting Commissioner of Police Atlee Rodney, Deputy Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers, Fire Chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police Elvis Weaver and other senior officers. Acting Commissioner of Police Rodney declared the training course open.

A total forty-seven young recruits comprised of six females and forty-one males made up the batch of recruits on Course #3 of Sir Wright F. George Academy. Twelve males will be trained in basic firefighting duty subjects and drills, while all the others recruits will be trained as regular police officers. Training is expected to last for six months.

  1. TREMENDOUS PROMISE

An officer opposite to her male-counterpart has always shown deep commitment and devotion to duty.

She has shown ‘…Tremendous Promise’ in organizational leadership.

This is a ‘…quantum leap’ of some significance.

From professional knowledge and observations, she is matchless.

She has constantly shown grit and determination, with exemplary behavior both in her private and official capacity.’

She is respectful and has always commanded the respect of both junior and senior officers.

To be so positioned and so charged with the responsibility for commanding and training such number of trainees, not only speaks to confidence reposed in her, but also to her leadership qualities, evidenced by her ‘…professional competency; …discipline; …a good sense of purpose, direction and judgment.’

Though new responsibilities often bring new experiences, she is not expected to wilt under ‘…organizational environmental pressures.

Even as the challenges ahead might be innumerable and seemed insurmountable, there is no doubt that she possesses the capacity, will and temperament to overcome them.

    Congratulations, ‘…Assistant Superintendent Louisa Quashie.’

    • @ Mr Pompey
I blogged a question to you however ANR did not post it….no rudeness I am not in that….no foul language not in that…..no disrespect not in that….. nothing obscene or offensive…..

Mr Pompey call your friend the editor and ask him for the question?

It has to do with how old is Sir Wright F George Academy?

This is the #3 course according to the article.

First female commandant in 50 years?

The math is incorrect it cannot computer.

Langford’s Police Training School and Sir Wright F George Academy might share the same location but they are different institutions.

That’s why this is #3 and not 53.

      • NIECES AND FEMALE COUSINS

Fractionally over ‘…6 males to 1 female.’

Well, if he simply wants to see more females, not bad suggestion, but you may have missed out ‘…Nieces and Female Cousins too.’

Still as far as ‘…disproportion’ as it affects ratio is concerned, he has a valid point.

        Critical factor Age ‘…18 – 35 years.

        So, Grandma is definitely out.

        • Are we selecting and recruiting females just to make up numbers? They get the same pay. However everyone will begin to sing a different song if like the men one woman is sent to the PM’s residence at night. It’s ok to equally recruit men and women but not ok to deploy them likewise. Would those calling for more women send one woman to patrol the city on foot by night? I dont think so however they would see it as ok to send one man.

          • I believed in both females and males work together to combat law and order in the nation. Officers (both female and male) should be assigned in pairs (one females and one male) or in fours (4s) when assigned on any patrol or security duty night or day. Also, it is time for the female officers to wear pants. The shirt can be as part of the dress uniform for special function.

    • Several females had applied and had scored high on the entry exam paper but were not chosen. Some of these females hold associate and bachelor degrees, and others with several CXC Subjects including Maths and English. It has happened all the time for years whenever a female who applied scored high on the exam never got chosen unless it is who know who.
I am wondering how many in the 47 are not Antiguans and Barbudans born native?

  2. Was wondering y so many of the members are gay men is it that the person doing the recruiting is a gay …we need to fix it because it could compromise security. Gaston look into this

  3. ANR why my blog was not uploaded? Simple question to Mr Pompey that’s the problem in this country, CENSORSHIP.

We will not get anywhere if we do not ask the right questions to getting the bottom of anything.

The story is flawed plain and simple all the media houses are making the same mistake. And I say it should be corrected.

So Editor continue in your ignorance…..
